10 Best Gadgets in Sonic Racing Crossworlds

10 Best Gadgets in Sonic Racing Crossworlds
10 Best Gadgets in Sonic Racing Crossworlds

In Sonic Racing Crossworlds, unlike your average kart racer, you can make what is essentially a custom build with RPG-esque stats, using the Gadget system.

You get these gadgets by leveling up online, doing achievements, clearing festivals, and doing the Grand Prix, and they’re all uniquely interesting, even if some of them are more viable than others.

They range from gimmicky, fun things to center a build around, to game-changers that alter your playstyle in a way that can have you breeze past the competition, to worthless rage bait like the Monster Truck Starter.

I’ll be covering 10 gadgets I think can help you succeed, focusing mostly on online matches as that’s where the gadget meta is typically the most important, as the best for time trials are pretty obvious.

10 Quick Recovery

No-Hit

One of the most frustrating feelings in any Kart Racer is being in a flowstate, nailing your drifts and boosts, then getting nailed by an item you had zero chance to react to or counter. You can’t stop this from happening, but you can mitigate it.

With Quick Recovery, you cut the time spent in hitstun and slowed down from items down, as well as having your speed decrease far less from being hit. It’s great, and the amount of spots you lose from being hit falls drastically.

For example, running this with an Acceleration character and a Power car, I had my vehicle sawed in half, and fully recovered within about two seconds. It’s extra good for this build, because it means you don’t rely on rings as much.

That said, it is, unfortunately, a 3-cost Gadget. This means it won’t slot in easily for most builds, and is something you either build around or take and lose out on a ton of potentially great gadgets because of it.

9 Inventory Plus

Tricks Up Your Sleeve

Having two items in a Kart Racer is already a massive step-up for strategizing, with an extra layer of depth to item counterplay and a lot of potential for item conservation to work far better than usual, so having three can be incredible.

Inventory Plus simply adds a third slot to your inventory, but it also costs two Gadget slots, so it’s something you need to carefully consider. It means you can get a bunch of great items, but you can also go the entire race without it being helpful.

However, imagine getting a Laser Wisp, Drill Wisp, and a Truck all at the same time, getting into the middle of the pack on the third lap, and using all of them strategically to guarantee a first place spot, and this becomes way more attractive.

Ultimately, it’s heavily playstyle dependent. If you tend to front run and use your items the second you have a half-decent opportunity. This is a waste of slots, but if you play far more carefully with them, this is a must-have.

8 Starting Boost Bounty

Better Than Everyone

You might not think a one-cost Gadget that only effects the very beginning of the race would be really good, but the Starting Boost Bounty gives you 30 rings for hitting the easiest QTE of your life.

If you can manage to get on the green at all, the extra speed from those rings will send you far quicker than anyone who opts not to use this gadget, so you can get ahead of the crowd in an instant.

It’s still up to you to maintain that lead, but especially if someone brought a Dark Chao starter, getting out of the chaos of the start of the race is a massive boon that can help you through the rest of it.

For example, you could end up in seventh after a few seconds, get run over, lose out on an item box, and essentially have to spend the entire next two laps making up for that, or you could just get ahead and win.

7 Type Tuners

The Catch-All

In the Gadgets menu, there’s a section dedicated to Stat Upgrades, and if you aren’t a fan of unique or gimmicky Gadgets, this is where I recommend you spend all of your attention.

With the Type-Specific tuner Gadgets, you get +10 to that stat, and -4 to a different stat for the first edition. For the second one, you get +10 to that stat, and -2 to two different stats, so it’s a bit of a tradeoff.

That said, these do stack, so, for example, stacking both Boost Tuner gadgets gets you +20 Boost, -6 Speed, and -2 Power. Given you’re usually giving up some Speed and Power anyway, that’s a damn good deal.

If you feel you want to invest in one specific stat, don’t be afraid to throw these on, even if you don’t have the same type as the tuner you’re equipping. If you’re mismatching types, you just get +4 to that stat, which isn’t bad either.

6 Machine Type Kits

Catch-All, But Fancier

The Machine Kits are quite a bit more complicated to explain than the Stat Boosters. They’re essentially weaker versions of multiple Gadgets, but for an overall lower cost.

They do not work well with a type other than their own, so while you can use the Boost Kit on an Extreme Gear just fine, using a Power Kit would be incredibly ineffective and lose all stat boosts.

Each of these do particular things, on top of granting you +20 to the selected stat, and -16 to a different stat. If you’re trying to go all-in on one specific stat, this is easily the best way to do it.

Some highlights are the Boost Kit giving you rings for every charge boost, the Handling Kit giving you invincible level 4 boosts, and the Acceleration kit essentially giving you Quick Recovery.

5 Air Trick Bounty

Good! Great! Awesome!

The trick system in this game, while significantly dumbed down from previous titles, is still something you may want to invest in. Namely, all the gadgets related to it are great.

This is especially true with Air Trick Bounty, which gives you two rings for every trick you can do. While that’s usually only a dozen rings for big air time, that number goes up exponentially with other gadgets.

For example, with the Air Trick Expert and Air Trick Adept gadgets on, you can get 16 rings off the first ramp in E-Stadium, and that can help fuel the Ring Gain Boost gadget and make you go incredibly quick.

This is something that’s constantly helpful, a very consistent and easy way to get rings up, and especially great for any track where you can get a large amount of air time, like Radical Highway or Metal Harbor.

4 Ring Gain Boost

Moneymaxxing

The benefits of Ring Gain Boost and its slightly less effective smaller version, Ring Gain Boost Mini, are quite apparent. You get money, go fast, and it makes rings useful even when you’re at the cap.

It’s hard to calculate the exact benefit, because it speeds you up a large amount for a really tiny amount of time whenever you get a ring, but I’d say it makes you around 10–15% faster on average.

That might not sound like a lot, but you already need to get rings to go fast anyway, so this just accelerates the process on top of making you better at it than all of your opponents.

It’s a great boon, especially with the mini version, which’s incredibly easy to slot into any build, and even better to slot into a build with a lot of Bounty Gadgets.

3 Ultimate Charge

What Item?

While the Handling Kit contains a slightly different version of Ultimate Charge, it’s hard to beat the original. This gives you a fourth level to your drift, and hitting that can make you invincible for a few seconds.

Given how counter-drifting works in this game, you can hold a drift for practically however long you want, then let this one rip the moment you feel like you’re in any danger.

It’s just about the only itemless solution to protecting yourself from items, as most of them home in on you or are damn near unavoidable, like the Truck and Drill Wisp.

Combine this with most other drifting Gadgets, and you’ve made a monster of a setup. This is especially true when running a handling setup, if you don’t want the Handling Kit for whatever reason.

2 Drift Charge Kit

Turn This Car Around

Speaking of drifting Gadgets, the Drift Charge Kit is a great alternative to the Handling Kit, giving you +3 to the Handling stat on any vehicle type, and making your drift gauge fill way faster.

Given the cost for every charge time improving Gadget is 4 compared to the Drift Charge Kit’s 3, that makes this a damn good deal, especially since you can spend that extra slot on more drifting Gadgets.

In particular, this pairs incredibly well with Perfect Charge, as it creates an easy way for you to get right back up to top speed as soon as you can get a drift off. You can also pair this with more drift charge speed, if you want.

Most tracks in this game are quite winding and turn-heavy, and even when you aren’t running a Handling build, this makes all of those tracks much more manageable, and makes Snaking really fun to do.

1 Counter Quick Charge

Back 2 Back

Pretty much a lock for any list of the best Gadgets, Counter Quick Charge is well worth the three slots it takes up. It lets you build up a drift, quickly change directions, and get rewarded with an entire extra gauge.

This is a massive benefit, especially if you’re running with a level 4 charge, as it makes that somuch easier to get, on top of further rewarding you for keeping your drift for a while.

You can pretty much get off the ground running in an instant, as a level 2 charge brings you up to the same speed as a level 3 charge does, and you can build a level 1 charge in no time at all.

Throw this into your build, try to use it on straightaways or particularly curvy roads, and you’ll be boosting ahead of everyone else like an absolute professional.
