I’ve recently started work on some space combat rules, as I haven’t found any that are really robust and flexible, without being overly complex/detailed and/or purely narrative. I want something that has tactical control over ship systems and crew, á la FTL, and strategic external ship-to-ship combat. Such as maneuvers, environmental hazards, and different weapon types. With a simple enough base structure that a single player can control a whole ship without much issue.
Stars Without Number: Revised is the closest to what I’m looking for. It has FTL-esque stats and tactical system and crew control. However it lacks the external strategic element. I really love its Ship Crisis mechanic.
Does anyone know a game that has a system like this?
