When you finally reach the Borderlands 4 endgame, you will unlock one of the final steps to making your character’s build perfect, and that is Firmware. Before using it, you may want to respec your character to achieve the perfect build.
You may have seen Firmware appear on items you’ve picked up throughout the campaign and been confused by what they are. These smaller abilities don’t appear to be much, but they pack a huge punch when you stack them up.
Because of this, you will want to know what each of the Firmware abilities is in Borderlands 4 and how you can use them to your advantage.
How to Use the Firmware Transfer Machine in Borderlands 4
The Firmware Transfer Machine in Borderlands 4 is a horizontal cylindrical machine that unlocks when you complete the campaign and the mission for Zane afterward. It is used to transfer Firmware from one item to another.
When you interact with the machine, you will have this menu appear with three columns. In the first column, you will place the item that has the Firmware you wish to transfer. In the second column, you will place the item that you want the Firmware to be transferred to.
The final column is the outcome, which will be the item from the central column with the Firmware from the item in the first column. You can inspect the new item to make sure it is what you want before finalizing the transaction.
Completing a Firmware transfer will cost you money and Eridium. The amount you are required to pay is dependent on the rarity of the items you used. For instance, moving a Firmware from one legendary item to another costs $60,000 and 100 Eridium.
It is important to note that you cannot transfer Firmware between items of different types. For instance, Firmware on a Repkit can only be transferred to another Repkit. You cannot transfer Firmware from a Repkit to a class mod for your character.
All Firmware in Borderlands 4
There are 21 different Firmware in Borderlands 4 that can appear on the game’s various weapons, armor, and accessories. Each of these Firmware will spawn with one point. If you want the maximum effect of the Firmware, you will need to have three different pieces of gear with the same Firmware equipped on your character.
