RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Klabater’s The Amazing American Circus, as well as Paratrope’s Skyclimbers.
Klabater’s The Amazing American Circus is a strategic deck-building RPG set in the 19th-century United States. The game sees players trying to build up a circus empire, engaging in “duels” against the audience as they put on performances. Players will need to manage and recruit troupe members while building up their caravan. The game features numerous historical and fictional characters from American folklore.
Klabater is looking for €10,000 (c. $12,000) in funding by March 11, 2021. The Amazing American Circus is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch, and is currently expected to launch later this year. Those who pledge at least €20 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.
Paratrope’s Skyclimbers is billed as a multiplayer city-building action RPG. The game takes place in a procedurally-generated open world with Breath of the Wild, Minecraft, Pokémon, and Northgard listed as inspirations. Players pick a class and select a starter companion monster called a Sentius, which joins them in the real-time combat and can also be used as a mount if large enough. Sentius can evolve as they level up, and players can also tame wild creatures. It features real-time base building as players build up their kingdom, which is inhabited by spawned villagers.
Skyclimbers is currently in development for PC and Mac. The game is expected to launch on Steam Early Access later this year, with the full launch planned to follow after one-to-two years. Paratrope has already far surpassed its initial $25,000 funding goal, with the campaign set to run until March 11, 2021. Those who pledge at least $30 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.
