Should Games Give Players Stuff To Do When Their Character Falls Unconscious or Dies?

Hey everybody. I wanted to ask the community a few questions. I’m hoping people’s responses can help illuminate how most folks think about this. Let’s say you’re playing a role-playing game and your character falls unconscious or even dies. Imagine this is halfway through a session.

Are you okay with sitting back and letting your group continue the adventure or would you prefer to play a game that lets you continue to play in some form even though your character isn’t present? For example, maybe the game has mechanics for inspiring your fellow players while you are not there or even allows you to play the ghost of your character.

For the game masters out there, in lieu of having rules in your games of choice to handle this situation, what do you do at your table?
