More than a year ago, Ubisoft announced that the long-in-development Watch Dogs movie had finished filming, but the movie’s star, Tom Blyth, has now confirmed some in the cast recently came back for reshoots.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Blyth said said he “just went back and did some reshoots” to help make the movie “even better.”
Blyth didn’t elaborate as to the nature of the reshoots, but reshoots are pretty common and aren’t necessarily indicative of issues. In any event, Blyth went on to share a key detail about the Watch Dogs movie, and that is that it’s “not the game” and is “very different.”
“I’m trying to pick my words carefully, but they’ve done an amazing job of making the game into a film. It feels very ‘film’. It doesn’t feel like they’ve tried to copy and paste the game onto the screen. It feels like its own thing, and it feels like the beginning of a world-building exercise,” Blyth explained.
Blyth starred in 2023’s Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as a young Coriolanis Snow.
The Watch Dogs movie also stars Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me) and Markella Kavenagh (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark) directed the movie. Turi is also attached to direct the A Plague Tale TV series.
The Watch Dogs movie was announced in 2013, a year prior to the game series debuting in 2014, and was originally set up at Sony Pictures before shifting to New Regency.
Watch Dogs the game proved popular, and sequels Watch Dogs 2 (2016) and Watch Dogs Legion (2020) followed. The series used places like Chicago, San Francisco, and London as settings across the three installments, and the open-world games feature futuristic hacking and gadgetry. However, there continues to be no word on the setting or story for the movie version.
