With just two weeks to go until its launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, one of the most anticipated games of 2025 for Nintendo fans, is back in the spotlight with a brand-new trailer.
Lasting six minutes (better grab a coffee to watch it fully), the video provides quite a deep overview of the game, summarizing practically everything you need to know before starting up your adventure across Lumiose City once again.
So, in the trailer, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company detail the RPG’s revamped battle system, the bustling Wild Zones of the city, its much more dynamic way of capturing wild Pokémon, and also jazzy battle themes. Oh, and it confirms: Salamence is finally standing again!
To give it a final touch, the developers even state that it is an experience not only for die-hard Pokémon fans, but also for new players who are about to toss their first Poké Ball. Take a look:
I look forward to tackling the nighttime tournament and having some relaxing café moments in Lumiose City. However, I couldn’t help noticing that the trailer’s fan reactions were filled with already unhappy players.
Fans Look Excited for Z-A, But DLC and Online Locks Leave a Bitter Taste
Among some concerns about the lack of NPCs around the city and shop interiors in the trailer, there is a noisy crowd of fans who are frustrated with the Pokémon Company’s previous announcements about an upcoming paid Mega Dimension DLC and having some content attached to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
For the DLC, players are worried that it may be a sign that the game will intentionally be launched “incomplete” in terms of story, only to encourage the purchase of the expansion. Also, the fact that it is going to be paid content doesn’t make things better. “Making DLC before the base game even drops? That’s insane. Nintendo could’ve just put that content in from the start”, wrote a YouTube user.
As for the content attached to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, most fans are particularly mad about the Kalos starter Megas being “locked behind online” instead of everyone being able to use them organically during the adventure.
“Having the Megas of the Kalos starters attached to a paid additional service on top of us already paying for internet connection, it’s fairly annoying”, wrote another YouTube user. Some even appealed directly to the developers: “Please, make the Mega Kalos starters available without needing online!”.
Well, despite all the complaints being fair to say the least, Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches on October 16th for Nintendo Switch 1 and Nintendo Switch 2, with the first wave of the Mega Dimension DLC content coming out on the same day for the $30 price. Its second wave, which adds additional story content that continues after the main base game, is planned for February 28, 2026.
