There is plenty of interesting side content in Where Winds Meet. One minute you might be learning Tai Chi from a bear, and the next you might be climbing a tower in the middle of the province. The game is certainly interesting to say the least.

Stuck with that flashing red icon? Not for much longer.
One of the many minigames you can take part in is called the Gift of Gab. Think of it as your means of persuading people or taking part in a friendly debate. Of course, there is a lot more to it than that.
So what is the Gift of Gab in Where Winds Meet? Let’s break it all down.
Gift of Gab Minigame, Explained
When you initiate the Gift of Gab minigame, you will first be required to choose your Gift of Gab style. There are four to choose from: Bluster, Provocation, Rebuttal, and Filibuster. Each of these types has different cards and is effective against a different style, sort of like rock, paper, scissors.
The game will automatically assign you to the one that is most effective against the style that your opponent is using, so you won’t need to go out of your way to learn which one is more effective than another. However, in case the situation arises:
- Bluster beats Provocation
- Provocation beats Rebuttal
- Rebuttal beats Filibuster
- Filibuster beats Bluster
It is important to note that how well you perform in the minigame is ultimately based on what actions you perform. While you may choose the correct style of speech, you can still easily lose if you aren’t prepared.
When the Gift of Gab minigame begins, you will notice that the entire screen changes. You will not have access to your standard abilities like Meridian Touch. Instead, you will see various bars, a timer, cards, and points.
Starting with the bars, these are meant to show what your and your opponent’s mental focus is. Your mental focus appears on the bottom left side of the screen, while your opponent’s appears at the top. In the upper right corner, you will see a timer, signifying how much time you have left to defeat your opponent.
In the bottom right corner are your Inspiration Points. These are used to activate the cards that appear in the center of the screen. Each of the cards has a different effect and point cost. The point cost appears in the upper left corner of each card, while the effect will appear when you have a card highlighted.
As the minigame plays out, you will continuously get Inspiration Points that you can spend on the cards to defeat your opponent. When the timer runs out, you will not automatically fail, but the minigame will speed up.

How to Win the Gift of Gab Minigame
Your goal in the Gift of Gab minigame is to drain your opponent of their mental focus before yours disappears. This is much easier said than done, as this minigame can be rather confusing at first, quite like solving the wall puzzle.
Each of the cards in your repertoire has a specific ability that will help deal damage to your opponent or help you defend yourself from a verbal assault. High inspiration cost cards tend to be more effective, so it is okay to wait for the point required to use them.
I have found it effective to start with higher-cost cards and use a few lower-cost ones to help maintain your inspiration. During your debates, you will see that there will be the occasional QTE that appears over your or your opponent’s words.
These QTEs will allow you to deal additional damage to your opponent, regain Inspiration Points, or silence your opponent. I always go for either the Inspiration Point generation or to silence my opponent, though the damage-dealing effect is great when you are near the end of the minigame.
You don’t always need to focus on damage-dealing cards, as some effects will help you defend against your opponent’s words, and others will allow you to activate the QTEs to inflict more damage or regain Inspiration Points.
If you run out of time, at that point, you should focus on dealing damage, as this is when your mental focus will begin to deteriorate faster. Later on, you can upgrade your capabilities in the Gift of Gab minigame through the Scholar Career.
