Quick Links
While the previous areas in OFF set the precedent for rather large, open segments that give you no real direct instruction, the RPG decides to focus on railroading you down one specific path with Zone 3.
You might think that would naturally lead to the place being far more straightforward, but the puzzles here only get more intricate and obtuse compared to the previous two zones.
Especially later on, once the area finally opens up and gives you quite a bit of choice in where you want to go, things will get challenging and make you feel like you’re completely lost.
This guide is here to help, though. Despite the fact that you won’t need help navigating, I’m here to give you the keys to these puzzles, and let you solve them your own way, or just give you the cheat sheet with all the answers.
Area 1
As you arrive in Zone 3, you’ll be met with an office where you cannot do much, and you may realize that this place offers you very little choice in where you’re going next, which will be a continuing theme.
Collect the Stamped Note on the wall, then head into area 1, where you can press Shift to pull up the note. This shows a rather rudimentary layout of the room you’re in, and the safe zones within.
Generally, if you can travel in a straight line from one colored square to another, using the squares on the floor as your spaces, then you wont get hit by an enemy encounter. If you do find enemies, you’ll be sent right back to the start.
With the note as your guide, go one space to the left, two spaces up, one and a half spaces to the left, two spaces up, two spaces right, one space up, then three spaces left, where you can enter a door and meet up with Zacharie.
Head back to square one, then travel four spaces left to the green square one, and use the guide again, heading two spaces up, two and a half spaces left, three spaces down, one space left, four spaces up, then go left, up, and to the right, for another door.
You’ll witness a man get murdered and fight spectres that murked him. You should absolutely prioritize the crown here above all else, to prevent healing. There’s also another chest to grab in this room, if you want.
Head back to the black square 5, then head left three spaces, up and to the right, left and down, left one space, and up one space, to a room where you’ll find your final add-on, plus another chest full of goodies.
After that diversion, go back to black square 8 to talk to Zacharie again, keeping in mind that you still need to move in the square’s number order to not get any random encounters.
Area 2
Zacharie tells you to head to area 2, so naturally, head back down to the monorail and take it to your destination. He’s always going to end up getting there before you can, but you can head into the room on the left to buy items, if you wish.
Further to the left is a room full of very simple switch puzzles. Flip all the ones on the right, flip the one on the left, then flip the one marked with a C once again to open up the door to the above room.
In this room, flip each switch sequentially, which will unlock another switch to flip, until you get to the one right next to the door, which blocks the door. To unblock it, flip the middle and top right switches until the blocks are both gone, then answer the door with “Von Gacy”.
Fight the three guys in this room after they kill the ghosts, grab the Fortune Ticket on the bottom right, and wade your way through a bunch of very angry employees, noting that you don’t actually need to fight any of them.
Area 3
Head back to the monorail and head to Area 3. This is the most straightforward of all of them, and starts with you climbing up a ladder and diving into a big factory pipe, making you play a rather easy minigame where you just need to stay in the center of circles.
In here, you’ll get more lore by heading downstairs and speaking to a man shoveling dead bodies into the oven. After you speak to him, jump down the pipe and encounter Zacharie, who will come with you to Area 4.
Area 4
Hop on the rail with Zacharie, then clear out the monorail of a man in the middle of the tracks, and get back to it. Area 4 is quite a bit more inconvenient to navigate, but start by heading left and inspecting doors until one opens.
Push the desk to the left, enter the next door on the left, and take note of the image you find on the table. Head to the right of the save point, and try to dodge the rather annoying enemies as you go through the halls.
Once you hit a wall on the right, the door up top will lead to a game controller, which you need to do a series of inputs on in order to remove the blocks that prevented you from heading south.
To get the inputs, head down from this door, and go through the middle hallway and into the second door, where you’ll get a somewhat easy, but very long encounter, and a chest containing a Music Box.
Continue down the hallway, then head up if you’d like to buy some items from Zacharie, and down for a nice piece of golden flesh. Head back to the left, then take another left, head down, and take the first door, where you’ll find Zacharie again.
This time, he wants to trade the Music Box for some information, which you should accept, as he’ll move the game window aside, showing you the button combination you need for that controller from earlier.
You need to use that image from earlier in combination with this to form the series of inputs, that being “Down, Left, Up, Right, Top button, Left button, Right button, Down button, Right button, and Start”.
Head back to the controller to input this, then head back to the top left door, and head down the stairs. Walk past some signs that can’t stop you because you can’t read, then enter the numbers on the wall, keeping in mind the keypad is flipped upside down.
Enoch
You’ll meet with the Director, Enoch, after heading up, and the only way to win is by running from this fight until you get all the way back to the monorail, where the battle will start for real against the massive man.
You can safely ignore the rooms that are completely stark white; there isn’t really anything to gain in them, and they’re just a distraction on your way back to the monorail.
The fight itself isn’t difficult, as Enoch is far too exhausted to do anything other than one large attack every so often, which you can very easily heal off using The Batter’s competence or with whatever items you have on hand.
He drains your CC quite often, but if you pack a few pieces of flesh, it shouldn’t be an issue. If not, then I’d recommend using your crits for defense, as that will help you regain quite a bit of it while protecting yourself from damage.
Use the Batter to deal massive hits to his head as frequently as possible, don’t bother curing Furious, and use items liberally. Eventually, one of you will fall, and with enough Luck Tickets, it won’t be you.
After the victory, you can return to Zone 3 to find it purified, and while you can probably manage the enemies you’ll find here by this point in the game, you should probably wait a bit longer until you’ve leveled up more, especially by heading to Zone 1 first.
