Following the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake in 2023, horror fans might have assumed that Capcom is planning to remake Resident Evil 5 next.
If you’re one of the many counting on that, well, we have bad news for you.
A recent rumor has surfaced that doesn’t bode well for the future of the Resident Evil 5 remake, but it also mentions that another game in the franchise is being remade, and this might prove to be more popular for Resident Evil fans.
Resident Evil 5 Remake Currently Not In Development At Capcom
The latest bit of info comes from reliable horror game leaker Dusk Golem. Over on X (formerly Twitter), the insider/game developer said, “The info is there is no Resident Evil 5 Remake in development right now.”
However, he also believes, “if fan demand continues to be high & things align, it’s definitely possible it could happen in the future. But at this moment in time, a remade version of RE5 is not being worked on.”
Bear in mind, this is unofficial info, and as such, should be taken with a pinch of salt. For all we know, Capcom has an RE5 remake cooking and ready to be announced soon. Dusk Golem has, of course, proven to be reliable when it comes to horror gaming info, so we’re leaning to believe that Capcom has nothing brewing right now.
There is some good news, as Dusk Golem also claims that Resident Evil: Code Veronica, the unnumbered mainline entry in the franchise, is getting remade! The leaker states, “Code Veronica Remake is going super well from what I’ve heard, like RE:4 levels of good (which is funny since a lot of the same people). Going so well that it’s actually ahead of their internal schedule and they’re very confident in what they’re making.”
Originally released as an exclusive to SEGA’s Dreamcast console, Code Veronica is a highly-regarded entry in the franchise, and is the second game where Claire Redfield is the protagonist.
While we’ve seen it released on other platforms since then, it’s probably one of the overlooked games in the franchise, given it’s not a numbered entry.
Same as with the RE5 remake info, this is unofficial, and Capcom has not announced a remake for Code Veronica. That said, if Dusk Golem’s info is accurate, then we should hear about this at some point next year, most likely once Resident Evil Requiem is out.
Speaking of the Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has made it so that the horror game will automatically switch to first or third-person view when playing, as the devs will have it switch to give gamers the maximum horror impact.
While the Code Veronica isn’t official yet, Capcom does have Resident Evil Requiem set for release on Feb. 27, 2026, on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
