Hawlucha Mega Evolution Makes an Explosive Debut in Pokémon Legends Z-A

Game Freaks’ Pokémon Legends: Z-A is only a month and a half away from release, but The Pokémon Company is still exciting fans with new bits of information for the Kalos-based title.

Earlier this spring, many rumors and leaks popped up supposedly detailing up to 27 new Mega Evolutions to debut in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Mega Dragonite and Mega Victreebell have already been revealed and confirmed to be coming to Z-A this summer, adding more credibility that all previously mentioned new Mega Evolutions will appear in the new Pokémon game.

However, the new Mega Evolution reveals haven’t stopped there as The Pokémon Company has just unveiled another new Mega Evolution in the form of Mega Hawlucha, the first Gen 6 Pokémon to receive a Mega Evolution.

Mega Hawlucha Steps Into the Ring

Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Hawlucha vs Machamp

On Tuesday, The Pokémon Company teased an epic boxing match between Hawlucha and Machamp called “the mega matchup of the millennium” that was set to premiere on Thursday and tie into Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Sure enough, the official Pokémon YouTube channel released a 3D animated video on Thursday of Hawlucha vs. Machamp, reminiscent of the WWE, intercut with 2D animated flashbacks of Hawlucha’s training, challenges, and bond with its trainer.

This culminated in the trainer Mega Evolving Hawlucha, now adorned with a far more extravagant lucha libre mask that reminds me a bit of Rey Mysterio’s Aztec-inspired attire from WrestleMania 22, who subsequently defeats Machamp.

Unlike other Mega Evolutions, unfortunately, Mega Hawlucha doesn’t gain a new alternate typing and instead remains a dual Fighting/Flying-type.

Mega Hawlucha’s design and typing may be a bit underwhelming compared to other Mega Evolutions, such as Mega Charizard X or Mega Gyarados, as it basically just gets slightly bigger and gets a new mask, but it builds off of Hawlucha’s lucha libre inspiration incredibly well.
