No Man’s Sky might be the perfect example of a game that failed to live up to the hype, but with constant updates, it managed to even surpass its initial expectations.
Released almost 10 years ago in 2016, No Man’s Sky is still alive and kicking to this day.
Not only that, but its most recent update has given the game a shot in the arm, as it’s seeing new player count highs that it hasn’t seen in years.
No Man’s Sky Voyagers Update Managed To Lure Back Players
The player resurgence is due to the Voyagers update, which was released last week, ushering in new content for free.
This content drop introduced the Corvette-type ships, a new Expedition, and a lot of new features too. It seems that what players tried resonated strongly, as No Man’s Sky now has over 90,000 concurrent players on Steam alone (via Steam Charts)
The all-time player high for No Man’s Sky is over 212,000, but this was established way back in 2016. Since then, the game has only surpassed 90,000 players once, and this was in July 2018.
While I doubt No Man’s Sky will come close to its 200K all-time number, this is still an impressive feat — especially for a game that’s almost a decade old.
Bear in mind, this is only for Steam, and doesn’t even factor in the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch players, which means this number could easily be double or triple what we’re seeing now.
No Man’s Sky might be the perfect example of a bad game that’s now good after numerous title updates. The game has proven to be so amazing in its comeback that it even inspired Helldivers 2’s CEO when their game was at its lowest point.
The great thing about it is, Hello Games isn’t done with their space exploration game yet. I expect more content updates to be released before 2025 is over, and that doesn’t even factor in the countless bug fixes the studio rolls out.
If you’re on the fence to buy No Man’s Sky, now might be the perfect time, given it’s way cheaper now than before.
