While Rayman was once considered to be Ubisoft’s unofficial mascot, the character has been missing in action for the past few years.
That’s changing, as Ubisoft confirmed they are working on the future of the franchise. However, don’t expect anything tangible in terms of news anytime soon.
Ubisoft has remembered the Rayman X (formerly Twitter) account exists, as the publisher has posted an update, which is the first one we’ve seen in over four years! The account activation comes as Rayman turns 30 years old today.
The video features Brand Producer Loic Gounon, as they confirm a new project is in the works, stating, “As we said in the past, a very talented team at Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are currently working together on the future of Rayman. Don’t expect news from us too soon, but rest assured Rayman is in good hands.”
Hopefully, that doesn’t mean we’ll have another four years of radio silence before anything crops up again.
Rayman was first introduced in 1996 for the Atari Jaguar, PlayStation 1, Sega Saturn, and PC (on MS-DOS). Due to its popularity, it also got ports for the Game Boy Advance, Nokia Communicator, Nintendo DSi, and smartphone versions in 2016.
The last mainline Rayman game released was Rayman Legends, which was available for the PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS Vita, and PC in 2013. However, the game was later ported to the PS4 and Xbox One in 2014, and to the Switch in 2017.
While Rayman himself hasn’t had a game in years, the spinoff franchise Rabbids has been more active, with the latest game in the brand featuring its second crossover with Nintendo, titled Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
