The Assault class in Battlefield 6 is getting a new signature gadget to open up some new opportunities both for new angles on enemies and for some potential shenanigans.
Previously, the signature gadget available to the Assault class in the Battlefield 6 beta was the Combat Stim, which increases the player’s speed and resistance to debilitating weapons like thermobaric and flash grenades.
Now, though, DICE and EA have shown off a new option available to the class, and one that has much more utility for the rest of the player’s squad: a humble ladder.
We’ve known about it for a while, but if you haven’t seen it yet, the Assault Ladder can be used, as you might expect, as a way to get access to new areas and points of entry for buildings, but recently, thanks to a new video, players have been thinking about some more unorthodox uses for it.
A Bit More Than Just A Ladder
When placed mostly vertically, the Assault Ladder will work as you’d probably expect it to. You can use it to get to new areas, but anyone using it is relatively vulnerable and cannot use a weapon until they reach the top.
It’s a good alternative to the much more selfish Combat Stim, since it provides a lot of extra strategic utility to the player’s squad and gives the Assault class new ways of approaching combat alongside their team instead of just going in guns blazing with the stim active.
Additionally, if the ladder is placed at a shallower angle, it will instead function as a ramp for players to walk up instead of climbing, sacrificing some height and taking up more horizontal space in exchange for being less vulnerable while using it, and this placement option is what’s causing some discussion in the community.
Namely, players on Reddit (via PC Gamer) are wondering if the ramps will be usable by infantry only, or if it would be possible to have multiple players place their ladders side by side for use by vehicles, which could get them into some places where they aren’t meant to be, like inside buildings or even on top of them.
There are also questions about if the ladder will make it easier for players to get out of bounds, or other potential exploits like stacking them on top of each other to really take advantage of the verticality of the maps in Battlefield 6.
