Borderlands 4 Gets A Much-Needed Stability Update

While Gearbox managed to bring that tried-and-true looter-shooter gameplay for Borderlands 4, it’s not without faults. Or to be more specific, it’s not without its technical issues.

Since launch, gamers have reported issues with the game’s stability and performance, with the PC version being the most affected.

Thankfully, some of those technical issues should be ironed out today, as Gearbox has released a new title update on PC.

Borderlands 4 Stability Update Doesn’t Fix All The Issues

The first post-release patch is only available on PC for now, and it’s one aimed at stability and performance instead of any gameplay balance changes.

The actual technical changes haven’t been shared by the developers, but they did mention the following:

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, please refer to this Borderlands 4 NVIDIA Optimization guide that features Optimal Settings charts provided by NVIDIA with suggestions for which graphics settings may work best for your combination of GPU and desired display resolution. You should also use the NVIDIA app to download and install NVIDIA’s newest Game Ready Driver (581.29) and Optimize for your system.

If you have an AMD graphics card, please refer to this Borderlands 4 AMD Optimization guide that features Optimal Settings with suggestions for which graphics settings may work best for your combination of GPU and desired display resolution.

It’s also important to note that anytime a player changes their graphics settings, the game’s shaders will need to recompile. This may take up to 15 minutes for the process to fully complete.

While Gearbox said that this update helps with the game’s performance and stability, a lot of members of the Borderlands community say otherwise. Most have reported crashing issues even after the patch, with some seeking a refund, given the crashing issues have become so prevalent.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has confirmed that more patches are on the way, which we’re hoping will finally resolve crashing problems. It’s one thing to have the game not perform up to par, and it’s another for the game to be unplayable due to crashes.

If you’re still having issues running the game, check out Nvidia’s optimization guide since it might help.

Performance issues aside, the game itself is still a ton of fun. Our review takes note of this, stating, “If you already love the Borderlands franchise—even the third game—you’re guaranteed to love this newest addition to this chaotic and bombastic looter shooter.”
