On Tuesday, September 23rd, seemingly in conjunction with the upcoming re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water into theaters starting on Friday, October 3rd, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment announced that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will receive a brand-new DLC expansion on Friday, December 19th, called From the Ashes.
This DLC launch will coincide with the United States premiere of the third Avatar film, Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19th, and its contents will directly build on events from the anticipated film.
From the Ashes will be sold for $19.99 for those who already own Frontiers, but for gamers who haven’t picked up the game yet, they’ll be able to purchase a From the Ashes Edition of Frontiers, which will include the base game and the upcoming expansion for $39.99.
From the Ashes is Frontiers‘ third expansion, following 2024’s The Sky Breaker and Secrets of the Spires, but it is the first to allow players to embody a different character aside from Frontiers‘ main customizable Sarentu Na’Vi called So’lek, who previously served as an NPC in Frontiers.
Attack of the Ash Clan
According to Massive Entertainment Creative Director Omar Bouali, From the Ashes will take place a few weeks after the events of Fire and Ash and take place roughly six months after the end of Frontiers‘ base campaign and two previous expansions.
Set in the Kinglor Forest and a new area of Pandora’s Western Frontier called The Ravines, From the Ashes follows Trr’ong clan warrior So’lek after his clan and allies are ambushed by the RDA and the ruthless Ash People clan of Na’Vi, who will serve as new antagonists in the upcoming film.
Left for dead in the now devastated and burning forest, So’lek must put aside his grief and begin his path of vengeance against the Ash People and RDA as he sets out to rescue whoever remains of his family.
The teaser trailer for Ashes additionally showcases the Ash People and a fleet of RDA airships presumably attacking The Ravines, as an unidentified leader of the Ash People claims that Eywa abandoned So’lek, calling him a “Dog Tag Warrior”, and that there is nowhere left to run.
Much like Fire and Ash, Bouali claimed that the From the Ashes expansion will deliver a “darker, more personal story” than one ever seen in Frontiers before and will feature new combat mechanics, more visceral gameplay, and a brand-new creature.
