Xbox Isn’t Just Increasing Game Pass’ Price, But Also Removing A Perk

Xbox Isn't Just Increasing Game Pass' Price, But Also Removing A Perk

Not only is Microsoft discontinuing the option for players to pay reward points for Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, but the company is even jacking up the cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and calls it “evolving” the service.

As it turns out, they’re not done with further muddying the Xbox brand this week.

For those who enjoy not only the free games available in the subscription service, but also the perks, it seems Microsoft pulled one feature silently.

Xbox Game Pass Discounts Took A Massive Blow

Before, having an existing Game Pass subscription gave members a 10% discount on DLC and other add-ons, which proved useful for meaty DLC that added to the game’s story. Now though? That’s gone. Take, for example, The Order of the Giants DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which saw the expansion now priced in full even if you have an existing Game Pass subscription.

Another game affected is Bethesda’s space-faring RPG Starfield, which now sees its Shattered Space expansion full-priced. Before, Game Pass subscribers got a 10% discount on it.

Spotted by Pure Xbox, it seems the DLC discount feature has been folded into Xbox’s Rewards program.

Microsoft explains the DLC discount for Game Pass in a rather vague way, stating, “With our upgraded Rewards program, players can get up to 30 percent value on select Game Pass games, with 4x points on purchases of games and add-ons, 10 percent back in points on select Game Pass library titles and add-ons, and up to 20 percent off select Game Pass games.”

It sounds like members are getting a better deal, but they aren’t?! At least not to me.

It’s not only DLC and add-ons that this discount is being pulled for. Even mega-franchise Call of Duty is affected as well. Before, Game Pass subscribers got discounts on COD Points. Now, with the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, that seems to have gone the way of the dodo. Now, Game Pass members will need to pony up for COD Points at full price like your common pleb.

Let’s hope this is the last bad news we get for Xbox gamers this week. I don’t think they can take any more of this excitement.
