According to the lore of the Hades games, pretty much every major weapon used by a god or god-adjacent individual is actually the same handful of swords, spears, shields, and so on over and over.
The weapons just assume different guises based on who wields them. I don’t know if this is rooted in any particular Greek mythology, but it’s as good a reason as any to have transforming weapons in Hades 2.
As with the original Hades, Hades 2 gives you access to a variety of different weapons to tackle runs with, each gradually unlocked as you accrue new kinds of resources from the Underworld and surface.
Once you’ve had some quality time with every weapon, you can then begin unlocking their Aspects, alternate forms with their own unique effects and playstyle modifiers, not to mention visual differences.
To make all of this happen, you’re going to need to fulfill a few prerequisites, source a lot of different resources, and, in the case of the weapons’ Hidden Aspects, do a bit of sleuthing.
Spoilers for Hades 2 ahead!
Unlocking And Using The Aspect System
Initially, all of your weapons have the same default Aspect with no special abilities or modifiers. To actually unlock the Aspect system in the Silver Pool, you’ll need to perform the incantation Aspects of Night and Darkness, which is itself unlocked after you’ve obtained the first five weapons and defeated Hecate in Erebus with each one.
To perform Aspects of Night and Darkness, you’ll need 1 Nightshade and 5 Bronze. Nightshade can be grown in the Crossroads from Nightshade Seeds dug up in Erebus, while Bronze can be harvested from armor piles in the City of Ephyra up on the surface.
fter you perform the incantation, the Silver Pool will be upgraded with tabs for all of your weapons, as well as their newly-available Aspects. As an added perk, your default Aspects will become the Aspect of Melinoe, and receive additional abilities, though you’ll need to upgrade them to Rank 2 to actually use them.
After you unlock a weapon’s Aspect with the requisite materials, you can then upgrade that Aspect up to four times by spending Nightmare, which you get by defeating marked bosses with the Oath of the Unseen activated.
When an Aspect is at Rank 5, you’ll be able to go through the process to unlock the weapon’s Hidden Aspect. This usually involves talking to a particular NPC to get a password, then accessing the Silver Pool to reveal it, after which the Hidden Aspect can be unlocked with the right materials.
Aspects Of Descura, The Witch’s Staff
- Aspect of Melinoe (Base Weapon): Unlocked by default
- Aspect of Circe: 5 Lotus, 5 Marble
- Aspect of Momus: 1 Pearl, 2 Limestone
- (Hidden) Aspect of Anubis: 5 Tears, 2 Fangs
The weapon you start the game with is Melinoe’s trusty magic staff, Descura. It’s simple, it’s balanced, and it’s easy to use. The base Aspect of Melinoe increases your max Magick and makes your special attacks a little stronger.
The Aspect of Circe costs 5 Lotus harvested from Oceanus and 5 Marble mined from Chronos’ statues in Tartarus. This Aspect creates a Psychic Leash to your Animal Familiar whenever you use a Cast, which damages any enemy caught in it.
The Aspect of Momus costs 1 Pearl earned from defeating Scylla and 2 Limestone harvested from Oceanus. Whenever you use an Omega Move, this Aspect creates a stationary turret that repeats the attack up to three times.
Once you’ve gotten any aspect up to Rank 5, find and talk to Circe in the Rift of Thessaly to get the Waking Phrase for the Hidden Aspect. Use it at the Silver Pool to reveal the Aspect of Anubis, which can be unlocked for 5 Tears earned from defeating Infernal Cerberus and 2 Fangs gathered from Olympus Summit.
This Hidden Aspect increases the speed and damage of your Omega Moves, generates damage zones with its Attacks, draws enemies in with Specials, and raises Lone Shades whenever you kill an enemy.
Aspects Of Lim And Oros, The Sister Blades
- Aspect of Melinoe (Base Weapon): 1 Silver
- Aspect of Artemis: 15 Silver, 1 Glassrock
- Aspect of Pan: 2 Shaderot, 2 Wool
- (Hidden) Aspect of the Morrigan: 8 Iron, 2 Feather
Second on the docket are Lim and Oros, a pair of short and sprightly daggers unlocked for 1 Silver from Erebus. They’re not strong, but they hit fast and true. The base Aspect of Melinoe increases the damage of your Attacks and Specials when you hit an enemy from behind.
The Aspect of Artemis costs 15 Silver harvested from Erebus and 1 Glassrock harvested from the Fields of Mourning. This Aspect not only increases the speed of your Omega Attack, but if you’re attacked while charging, there’s a chance you’ll parry it and enter Riposte, gaining higher critical chance for a brief time.
The Aspect of Pan costs 2 Shaderot harvested from Tartarus and 2 Wool earned from defeating Polyphemus. This one lets your Omega Special fire off more shots the longer you charge, as well as automatically seek out any enemies caught in your casts.
With any Aspect at Rank 5, chat up Artemis whenever she appears to get the Waking Phrase for the Hidden Aspect, the Aspect of the Morrigan. For 8 Iron harvested from the Rift of Thessaly and 2 Feathers earned from defeating Prometheus, you get alternate Attacks and Specials that hit multiple times, as well as a huge damage bonus when landing an Attack, Special, or Omega Move.
Aspects Of Ygnium, The Umbral Flames
- Aspect of Melinoe (Base Weapon): 3 Silver, 3 Cinder
- Aspect of Moros: 2 Bronze, 2 Tears
- Aspect of Eos: 2 Driftwood, 2 Golden Apples
- (Hidden) Aspect of Supay: 15 Marble, 1 Shadow
Need a light in your life? Leave to Ygnium, a pair of torches that launch bursting fireballs unlocked for 3 Silver from Erebus and 3 Cinder from defeating Hecate. The base Aspect of Melinoe provides a small chance for your Attacks and Specials to deal critical damage.
The Aspect of Moros costs 2 Bronze harvested from Ephyra and 2 Tears gained from defeating Infernal Cerberus. Your Attacks from this Aspect linger for a few seconds, and explode if you hit them with your Specials.
The Aspect of Eos costs 2 Driftwood gathered in the Rift of Thessaly and 2 Golden Apples gained from defeating Eris. This Aspect’s Omega Attack launches a large, slow projectile that fires off a damage field every few seconds.
Once an Aspect is Rank 5, talk to Moros in the Crossroads to get the Waking Phrase to reveal the Hidden Aspect, the Aspect of Supay. You’ll need 15 Marble from Tartarus and 1 Shadow made with Alchemy to unlock this one.
Your regular Attacks will fire automatically while your Omega Attack and Omega Special deal AoE damage. You also get a boost to damage dealt by Rush Boons.
Aspects Of Zorephet, The Moonstone Axe
- Aspect of Melinoe (Base Weapon): 10 Silver
- Aspect of Charon: 5 Pearls, 1 Obol Point
- Aspect of Thanatos: 4 Glassrock, 4 Nightshade
- (Hidden) Aspect of Nergal: 15 Iron, 5 Serpent Scales
If you’re not a fan of heavy metal, the massive axe Zorephet will change that for just 10 Silver from Erebus. It’s slow and unwieldy, but hits like a freight train. The base Aspect of Melinoe grants bonuses to both your base Attack power and max health.
The Aspect of Charon costs 5 Pearls from defeating Scylla and 1 Obol Point, one of those gold cards Charon gives you for spending 1,000 Gold Crowns. If you strike your regular Cast with your Omega Special, it’ll erupt like your Omega Cast.
The Aspect of Thanatos costs 4 Glassrock harvested from the Fields of Mourning and 4 Nightshade grown from Nightshade Seeds dug up in Erebus. Not only is your Attack faster, but the more hits you inflict without getting hit yourself increases your chance of dealing Critical damage.
When you’ve got an Aspect at Rank 5, have a dialogue with Charon in any of his shops to get the Waking Phrase and reveal the Hidden Aspect of Nergal. You’ll need 15 Iron harvested in the Rift of Thessaly and 5 Serpent Scales harvested on Olympus Summit.
This Aspect has a wide-reaching Attack and Omega Special. Additionally, after hitting enough enemies, you’ll enter a Berserk state, attacking faster and recovering 1 health per hit.
Aspects Of Revaal, The Argent Skull
- Aspect of Melinoe (Base Weapon): 1 Bronze, 2 Glassrock
- Aspect of Medea: 4 Iron, 1 Nightshade
- Aspect of Persephone: 5 Poppy, 1 Moss
- (Hidden) Aspect of Hel: 12 Adamant, 2 Snake-Reed
After you’ve unlocked Lim and Oros, Ygnium, and Zorephet, you’ll then be able to enjoy the grenade-launching stylings of Revaal, the Argent Skull, for 1 Bronze from Ephyra and 2 Glassrock from the Fields of Mourning. The base Aspect of Melinoe increases your Attack power based on how many shells are left in the chamber.
The Aspect of Medea costs 4 Iron harvested from the Rift of Thessaly and 1 Nightshade grown from Nightshade Seeds dug up in Erebus. Not only do your Attacks and Specials do more damage and stay within reach, but your spent shells will also explode after you land a Special or after a short time.
The Aspect of Persephone costs 5 Poppy grown from Poppy Seeds dug up in Tartarus, as well as 1 Moss gathered in Ephyra. This one gives you free level bonuses to your Boons. Additionally, your Omega Special can change directions midway and cause damaging effects from Boons to last longer.
Get an Aspect up to Rank 5, then go chat with Medea in Ephyra to get the Waking Phrase for the Hidden Aspect of Hel. You’ll need 12 Adamant from Mount Olympus and 2 Snake-Reed grown from Plankton dug up on Olympus Summit.
Your Attacks will burst-fire without using shells and your Specials seek out foes. Additionally, using your Omega Special will make your Attack fire continuously, though you won’t be able to use Omega Moves for a few seconds afterward.
Aspects Of Xinth, The Black Coat
- Aspect of Melinoe (Base Weapon): 2 Cinder, 2 Adamant
- Aspect of Selene: 4 Silver, 4 Moon Dust
- Aspect of Nyx: 4 Flux, 1 Darkness
- (Hidden) Aspect of Shiva: 2 Void Lens, 4 Nightmare
The final weapon, available after unlocking Revaal, is the Black Coat, Xinth, a delightfully anachronistic set of robot gauntlets and a jetpack missile launcher. You’ll need 2 Cinder from defeating Hecate and 2 Adamant harvested from Mount Olympus to unlock it; afterward, the base Aspect of Melinoe increases the speed of your regular movement, Attacks, and sprint.
The Aspect of Selene costs 4 Silver harvested from Erebus and 4 Moon Dust, which you can purchase from the Wretched Broker for 80 bones, make with Alchemy, or get for fulfilling certain prophecies. This Aspect gives you a special Hex to start your run with, Sky Fall. This Hex damages nearby foes multiple times and inflicts Shine, which causes them to take more damage from Omega Moves.
The Aspect of Nyx costs 4 Flux and 1 Darkness, both of which can be gathered within a Chaos Gate. Sprint for a moment to activate Omega Boost, which both deals a burst of damage and applies Nightspawn to your attacks. This, in turn, causes your Attacks and Specials to split into sub-units that deal reduced damage.
Get an Aspect up to Rank 5, and you can have a discussion with Selene during a run to get the Waking Phrase. Use it at the Silver Pool to reveal the Aspect of Shiva, which can be unlocked with 2 Void Lens from defeating Typhon and 4 Nightmare from completing Testaments on the Oath of the Unseen.
Your Omega Attack launches you forward, while your Specials fire fewer shots that deal more damage. If you absorb the blast from an Omega Special, you enter the Destructive state, boosting your Omega Attack damage. You can absorb multiple Omega Special blasts to boost the damage further.
