On your journey to slay the entirety of the Yotei Six to avenge Atsu’s family, you’ll come across a variety of side things to do in the world of Ghost of Yotei, one of which includes the Mythic Tales.

These return from the previous game, where you go on a fairly lengthy side quest to unearth an urban legend and gain a unique reward in the process. The one we’ll be focusing in here is the Undying Samurai Mythic Tale.

The main objective of this tale requires us to locate four different wind chimes across the Ishikari Plains region. I’ll be demonstrating the exact locations to find them and how you can easily complete this Mythic Tale to gain access to the unique armor at the end of it.

How To Start The Undying Samurai Mythic Tale

Just like with the other Mythic Tales in the game, you’ll need to find the dedicated Storyteller’s Rest site in Ishikari Plains. Luckily for us, I’ve conveniently showcased the exact location of the Storyteller’s Rest in the images above.

It is located up north in the region, just above Nakagoya Spring and smack-dab next to an enemy campsite that I recommend you clear out beforehand. Once you’ve reached the site, talk to Ugetsu to kickstart the Mythic Tale of the Undying Samurai.

With the cinematic sequence of the Undying Samurai done and dusted, the way to pinpoint his exact location requires us to find four wind chimes in the region, which we’re going to find out just now.

All Wind Chime Locations

Wind Chime #1

The first one is closer than you’d think, since we actually need it to find all the other three wind chimes in this Mythic Tale. It’s even visible in the cutscene where Atsu and Ugetsu are talking to each other.

The first wind chime is on a tree near you right after you’ve regained control of Atsu. Make sure to promptly kill the bear next to the dead body with your Yami longbow.

Collecting this wind chime will trigger the next objective, where you need to use the directional sound to help you locate the remaining ones. You can follow it if you want to track the rest down, but I’ve detailed their exact locations below anyway.

Wind Chime #2

With the Mythic Tale tracked, swipe up on the Touchpad to use the first wind chime to guide you to the other three.

The second chime that we’re going after is a rock formation right above the lettering of ‘Nakagoya Spring’ on the map, as I’ve shown above. Once you reach the exact point on the map, the wind chime is located on a corpse with a polearm sticking out of it.

Wind Chime #3

The next location we’re going to for the third wind chime is towards the upper mid-left part of the map, specifically the Rumoi River.

At the exact location shown on the map, you should be able to spot a Ronin from a distance who is inspecting a corpse. That dead body has the next wind chime we need, and, as you’d expect, asking nicely doesn’t work out in Atsu’s favor.

Defeat the Ronin in battle to gain the third wind chime. Time to get the last one to find the Undying Samurai.

Wind Chime #4

The final wind chime that we’ll be going to is located just below the edge of the Stone Jaw Coast map lettering, right where I’m at, as shown above.

You need to head to the upper cliffside either by climbing through the side or on horseback. This is the same cliffside that leads to the Oni Castle for the main story.

The wind chime is located on a corpse dangling on a rope from the tree, so we’ll need to pull it down using the grappling hook. Once you’ve dropped the body down, hop down a bit and collect the last wind chime.

Where To Find The Undying Samurai

With the last wind chime in possession, we now need to head to the location where we can put them together to supposedly summon the mythical Undying Samurai.

To find the Undying Samurai, use the wind chimes once again to guide you to the location. The exact place is shown in the images above, which is a coastside cliff on the far north-west side of Ishikari Plains.

Once you’ve reached here, glance down from the edge, and you should be able to spot a straightforward path down. After a bit of rock trail sliding and climbing, enter the cave to follow another path that leads to a narrow gap.

Squeeze through here, and you should now be in a bayside opening with a ton of wind chimes in the area, as well as four wooden posts at the end of it to place the wind chimes we acquired.

Defeat The Undying Samurai

Once you’ve placed all the wind chimes, get ready for a boss fight duel because we’re facing the Undying Samurai himself to prove our worth against him.

Like other duels in this game that you’ve fought, this is mainly skill-based; study the moveset as best as you can and be aggressive to easily drain the stagger bar and whittle the boss’s HP.

After you’ve defeated the Samurai, you’ll finally get your hands on the Armor of the Undying, which is personally one of my favorite armor sets to use with the perks and fashion game it provides once fully upgraded.
