Fortnite is gearing up for its next mini-season with some map changes straight out of The Simpsons. If you log into the battle royale right now, you can find a small tree sprig sprouting out of the top left corner of the Creepy Camps location. According to leaks, this is a tease for the eventual inclusion of Bart Simpson’s treehouse. This appears to be the start of a much bigger and ambitious rollout, which leaks suggest will turn the entire Fortnite map into Springfield, The Simpsons’ hometown.
If you need a visual aid on where to go, it’s here:
As fans know, the treehouse is where Bart and his friends like to hang out and read comic books. It is also heavily associated with the way The Simpsons frames its Halloween specials, with one-off stories that are scary, supernatural, or sci-fi. Naturally, players are flocking to Creepy Camps to check out the changes — so be careful if you go there!
Though Epic Games has not revealed its full plans yet, leakers have shared assets that show a preliminary Springfield-ififed map layout as well as what appears to be a rare encounter that could transpire during the next season. Specifically, The Simpsons’ alien invaders Kang and Kodos have a small chance of appearing during matches. Players won’t really be able to interact with the aliens during this portion of the event, as they appear to simply phase out of the map quickly. The treehouse is also reportedly going to contain a TV set that broadcasts a tease for the mini-season, a method of communication that Fortnite typically relies on for quests and events.
Leaks also suggest that many major characters, like Ned Flanders, Moe, and Krusty the clown, will have skins available either for purchase or contained in the battle pass. Fortnite characters themselves will have thematic ties as well, with the already yellow Peely depicted in the cartoonish style defined by creator Matt Groening. Leaks also assert that the entire map will contain Springfield in its entirety, from Moe’s Tavern to the power plant where Homer works — and the entire thing is supposed to be in the cel-shaded aesthetic that the TV show is known for.
If so, that would make The Simpsons the most ambitious collaboration Fortnite has done yet. Most collaborations the battle royale depicts only include skins and items, not a full-blown island remake with a different aesthetic than the base game. The leaks appear credible thus far, as the tree sprig is not in the style as the rest of Fortnite. Instead, the tree sprig looks like it’s cel-shaded.
The rollout will likely ramp up as time goes on, with The Simpsons mini-season rumored to debut in early November.
