Valve is making a major announcement, and while it’s not Half-Life 3, it is something big: Steam Machine, a portable Steam PC, will be released in early 2026.
Touted as six times more powerful than a Steam Deck, the new Steam Machine is the Steam Deck for the living room, letting you play your favorite PC games on the big screen without having to lug around your actual computer to do so.
We’ve been super happy with the success of Steam Deck,” Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve, said in a statement. “PC gamers have continued asking for even more ways to play all the great titles in their Steam libraries.” That’s exactly what the Steam Machine is poised to do.
Valve makes no secret that the Steam Machine is a PC. While you can run SteamOS, you’ll be able to run any operating system you’d like. Presumably, this means you’d be able to run Windows on it, which means you can also, presumably, boot up Xbox Game Pass on your Steam Machine, as this is something you can currently do on Steam Deck with a little magic. For those who are content to keep their Steam Machine on SteamOS, Valve has announced that it is expanding its Verified program to include ratings for Steam Machines. Just like with Steam Deck, the Verified program will indicate whether or not PC games will be able to run on the Steam Machine.

Valve isn’t ready to talk pricing just yet, but according to Eurogamer, you can expect it to be comparable to console pricing. For reference, the recently released Nintendo Switch 2 runs $449.99. This is a far more affordable price tag than the new Xbox-branded handheld, the ROG Xbox Ally X, which costs $999.99.
The specs on the Steam Machine are far from the worst, but they’re nowhere near cutting-edge. Should the Steam Machine launch at a Nintendo Switch 2 level price point, rather than a PlayStation 5 Pro price (roughly $749.99), then I can see a legitimate market for something like this.
- Security Camera Installation – indoor/outdoor IP CCTV systems & video analytics
- Access Control Installation – key card, fob, biometric & cloud‑based door entry
- Business Security Systems – integrated alarms, surveillance & access control
- Structured Cabling Services – voice, data & fiber infrastructure for new or existing builds
- Video Monitoring Services – 24/7 remote surveillance and analytics monitoring
