Ubisoft’s free-to-play fighting game Brawlhalla has been declining in popularity after more than 10 years, but the publisher is looking to cultivate a new audience with the release of Brawlhalla: The Card Game, which kicks off a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter Nov. 18.

The game is being developed by Maestro Media, which created the highly successful The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requiem tabletop game based on the 2011 roguelike from Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl, and Flyos, whose credits include the campaign board game Vampire: The Masquerade – Chapters. Lead designer Manuel Rozoy has worked on the trading card game Altered and the Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood of Venice board game.

“Around a table, players create a new kind of shared energy that expands the world they already love,” Maestro Media CEO Javon Fraiser said in a statement. “This card game is more than a new way to play. It is a celebration of the community and the next evolution of how the fans come together.”

Brawlhalla: The Card Game can be played as a head-to-head duel between two players, a two vs. two team game, or as a free-for-all for three or four players. The base game comes with six legends with their own decks and standees, which are used to navigate a customizable arena, pick up and equip weapons, and attack opponents. Games are designed to take about 20 to 40 minutes. Blitz mode creates a faster game where being knocked out of the arena instantly eliminates a player, while the classic mode offers three KO cards that allow Legends to respawn.

Backers who make a pledge within the first 72 hours will receive a pin depicting the half-demon ninja Hattori, while previous backers of Flyos and Maestro Media projects will get a sword pin.
