After a few months of little teasing here and there, Mafia: The Old Country is finally getting its biggest update yet, and the best part is that we won’t have to pay a single cent for it.

The upcoming date, titled the “Free Ride”, will add some long-awaited elements that promise to shake up how you explore the old streets of 1900s Sicily, being a pretty solid “welcome back” for players who drifted away from the game after rolling credits on the main story.

Everything That Comes With The Old Country’s Free Update

Hangar 13 has just confirmed that players won’t have to wait long to dive in, as the “Free Ride” update officially launches on November 20th – yes, that means tomorrow!

For long-time fans, the name may ring a bell, since it is a callback to the original Mafia’s “Free Ride Extreme,” but this new version takes a slightly different approach. This time, it will present a focus on a collection of new Challenges (separate from the main story) that give everyone the chance to revisit the world with more freedom.

Dispatch Not Having an Endless Dispatch Mode is Wasted Potential

Playing as a dispatcher for super heroes is a unique concept that Dispatch nailed well — but there’s no endless mode, and that’s a real shame.

You can check its full teaser right below:

According to Peter Amato, current content manager at 2K Games, who explains in the PlayStation Blog post, the update transforms the world map into a more “expansive hub”, adding plenty of new content and systems, such as contacts, unlockable Hitching Posts, and multiple types of activities to tackle at your own pace.

Many of these combat encounters actually reuse locations from the campaign, but they promise that it will still feel as something fresh. “These combat encounters reuse mission locations, so once you’ve played the corresponding story chapter and unlocked a Challenge in Free Ride, you’ll get to re-experience areas in new ways”, explains Amato.

On top of that, players can expect car and horse races, a classy photo mode, a new classic difficulty (finally!), additional weapons and outfits, new vehicles, and even a “Cinema Siciliano Mode” that lets you pretend you are playing a very alternative cut of The Godfather.

And yes, the team is also finally adding a first-person driving perspective. According to Hangar 13, this is something they’ve wanted to include in a Mafia game for a long time, and The Old Country’s “Free Ride” marks the first time the feature becomes a reality.

Last but not least, the studio teased that there may be new areas to explore as well within the update… but they say that this is something players will have to discover for themselves once the update drops. Now, if you excuse me, I’ll go make up some space on my PC storage to prepare for tomorrow.
