Pokemon Legend: Z-A DLC Mega Evolution Design Is The Laziest Yet

A new Mega Evolution for Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC has been revealed and it has easily the laziest design yet, barely changing the source Pokemon with its transformation.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A brought the popular Mega Evolution mechanic back to the series, after it had been absent since Gen 8. This meant an entire new crop of Mega Evolutions, starting off with the reveal of Mega Dragonite. Unfortunately, Mega Dragonite took flak from the fanbase due to its lazy design, as Game Freak just stuck a pair of wings on its head.

Of All The Gimmicks Pokemon Legends: Z-A Could’ve Brought Back, I’m Thrilled It Was Mega Evolution

I’ve missed Pokemon’s Mega Evolution mechanic, and it’s going to be a huge draw for Pokemon Legends: Z-A players.

It seems the cavalcade of bad Mega Evolution designs isn’t over yet, as a new trailer on The Official Pokemon YouTube Channel has revealed Mega Zeraora, which might have the single worst Mega Evolution to date.

Mega Zeraora Barely Changes Anything

So, what’s actually different about Mega Zeraora? It has an extra tail, spikes on the back of its hands, and its colors has been moved around, with black and blue being the main theme, rather than solely being yellow.

Mega Evolutions offer Game Freak the chance to do wacky and fun stuff with existing Pokemon. Mega Victreebel and Mega Starmie are prime examples of this, as the temporary nature of the transformations allows for designs that are completely bizarre, and vanish after the battle. Mega Zeraora has barely changed anything. A casual observer would be forgiven for thinking that it’s just Zeraora’s Shiny form, it changes that little.

The Mega Dimension DLC has already been criticized for laziness, due to how its set in a greyscale version of Lumiose City, rather than adding any new locations. The fact that Mega Zeraora is so similar to Zeraora is another symptom of this, and the fact that it doesn’t even change type means that it’s pretty much just there for a stat boost.
