Once released as a PS4 exclusive in 2019, who would have thought Death Stranding would take such a journey that it is now available across various platforms, and its imminent Game Pass launch now hardly feels like a surprise?
That’s what’s happening tomorrow, 21st January 2026: the Death Stranding Director’s Cut version of the game on Xbox Series X|S and PC joins Game Pass Ultimate. This adds to the PS Plus Extra edition, which has been on the PlayStation service since 2022.
Of course, even before the launch of the first game, the Death Stranding IP was never quite a full exclusive to PS4. A bit of chatter pre-release suggested it was always destined for other platforms after a period of exclusivity, and that came to fruition as publisher 505 Games put out a PC version. And then, in November 2024, the original game was ported to Xbox Series X|S.
For now, at least, last year’s Death Stranding 2 remains a PS5 exclusive, but age ratings have appeared that suggest a PC version is in the works. It would come as very little surprise if an Xbox Series X|S version followed afterwards.
This special Director’s Cut version of Death Stranding enhances the base game with additional content, which includes race tracks and a Metal Gear Solid-esque stealth sequence. It’s been on PS Plus Extra for years, but if you own an Xbox Series X|S, it’ll soon be part of your Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
