1047 Games has announced Update 2.2 for Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, which introduces Arena Royale, a fresh take on the battle royale formula designed specifically for arena shooter fans. The update launches on Wednesday, 22nd January across PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
Arena Royale drops 24 players into one of four massive biomes, including a brand-new urban battleground called Outskirts. The mode takes a different approach to traditional battle royales by removing buy stations in favour of instant upgrades, allowing respawning to keep players in the action, and introducing Arena Events that bring classic arena objectives into the battle royale format. According to Design Director Josh Watson, the team focused on a core philosophy of “less looting, more shooting” to maintain that signature arena shooter feel.
Update 2.2 also brings substantial content to the standard arena modes. Two new maps join the rotation: Tri-Hard, a high-flying arena built around launch portals and jump pads for aerial combat, and Runway, set in a neon cityscape inspired by Shinjuku with strong portal routes and power positions. Players can also tackle new Mastery Challenges and work towards the exclusive Isotromic camo, which is awarded to those who unlock chase camos on every available weapon.
Perhaps most amusing is the addition of “Teabag Takeover,” a limited-time event starting Friday, 23rd January. This tongue-in-cheek celebration allows players to earn points and unlock themed rewards by teabagging opponents, which the developers cheekily describe as “a long-forgotten sign of respect.” The update also adds proximity chat to Arena Royale mode alongside various bug fixes and stability improvements.
