Per Bloomberg‘s Jason Schreier, Bluepoint Games, the studio behind Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, is shutting down.
The Sony subsidiary, which the industry has championed and loved for years, is closing, affecting roughly 70 people at Bluepoint. According to Schreier, via a statement provided to him by Sony, the decision was made “following a recent business review.”
“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” the spokesperson said to Bloomberg. “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.”
Bluepoint Games was founded in 2006 and has acquired a reputation for remaking many of Sony’s properties while staying as close to the originals as possible on modern consoles. They’ve worked on The Uncharted Collection and Shadow of the Colossus, among other IPs like Demon’s Souls, and served as a support studio for Titanfall, Metal Gear Solid, and God of War Ragnarök.
Last year, Sony cancelled a live-service God of War title in development at Bluepoint. The publisher then said it would work with Bluepoint to plan the studio’s next move.
Bluepoint Games will close next month.
