My latest livestream was a mix of chaos, butterflies, and a little bit of “wait… how does that actually work?” energy, and honestly, that’s what makes exploring Second Life so fun.
First off, I finally added captions to my stream! Now, everything I say appears on screen in real time. I’m really happy about this because it makes the stream more accessible and easier to follow (especially when things get hectic, which they did).
I started the adventure at the Second Life Lindo x3 event at Original Distillery. There were 62 avatars packed into the region. Sixty-two! As you can imagine, the lag was very real. Movements were slow, rezzing took forever, and it felt like my poor viewer was working overtime.
While I was there, I talked about traffic points, how they’re calculated and how they apply to land. Now, full disclaimer: I might not have explained it perfectly. Traffic in Second Life can be a bit mysterious, and there are always rumors about how it truly works behind the scenes.
After surviving the lag, I went to a dance animation store for the
x2 event. The goal? Hunt butterflies and collect rewards. The problem? They weren’t selling nectars, which I needed to participate. So off I teleported to Dolphin Lounge Hangout, where I was finally able to buy the nectars and continue.
During the hunt, I had an idea: what if butterfly hunting worked more like CrystalCraze? Instead of standing around waiting, players could actively chase butterflies with nets. How fun would that be? Someone totally needs to create that. I would… but that’s beyond my scripting powers!
I also resized my Butterfly Net to “tiny” mode (which was adorable, by the way) and shared my thoughts on sploders. The only one I truly like? The No Lose Sploder. At least you walk away with something!
All in all, it was one of those perfectly imperfect Second Life nights, laggy, unpredictable, and full of little adventures. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🦋
