In the latest KosoKoso livestream, Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii revealed a new livestream is coming and will reveal the “next game” in the series.
In the live broadcast, Horii confirmed a new Dragon Quest livestream celebrating the series’ 40th anniversary is coming on May 27th.
While details are scant, this is another moment where Horii accidentally revealed information that was likely not meant to be announced yet and the archive of the broadcast was already taken down.
Various Japanese accounts and blogs took down what Horii actually said before the archive was taken down:
“We’ll be streaming on May 27. I think we’ll also be able to announce our next game,” Horii said. “We have plenty of other things in store besides the next game. Please look forward to it.”
It’s not clear what Horii meant with the “next game” being announced, considering Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate hasn’t been released yet nor has it been fully revealed.
Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate was teased as early as 2019 and got officially announced in 2021, though since then we’ve only had the logo, title, and various teases from main staff on its development since.
Square Enix revealed Dragon Quest XII during their series’ 35th anniversary livestream back in 2021, so it’s likely we’ll get a full reveal for the game in this month’s 40th anniversary livestream. The livestream was announced 2 weeks before the actual anniversary, so it’ll probably get announced this week.
