After an Xbox Game Pass got cheaper in April, the spotlight was on the first wave of new titles hitting the service post-price reduction. That wave delivered big indies like Mixtape and big-ticket releases like Forza Horizon 6. A few games left mid-month, like Planet of Lana.
On Tuesday, Xbox announced what is coming to Xbox Game Pass for the rest of May, but the most notable change to Game Pass’ lineup is what games are leaving the service. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will lose access to two great Atlus role-playings on May 31.
The first, Metaphor: ReFantazio, is a sprawling RPG that shares a lot of its DNA with the Persona series of RPGs. After the king is assassinated, a tournament is held to determine his successor, and you play as a candidate for the throne. You’ll journey across the world gathering allies and support, crawl through countless dungeons, and master the game’s turn-based combat. Metaphor: ReFantazio was a Game of the Year nominee at The Game Awards 2024, where it took home Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best Role-Playing Game.
The other, Persona 4 Golden, also leaves Xbox Game Pass this month. It’s an enhanced version of the original 2008 RPG, and was eventually ported to Xbox consoles and other platforms in 2023. You’ll investigate a series of murders in the Japanese countryside while also exploring an alternate realm, TV World, which is accessed by traveling through television sets. It features turn-based combat, dungeon crawling, and the series’ signature calendar system.
They’re not the only games leaving Xbox Game Pass, however. Here’s everything departing Xbox’s subscription service on May 31:
