Nintendo has made another surprise announcement: it’s returning to the mobile gaming market in May 2026 with Pictonico, a photo-based minigame collection in the same vein as WarioWare.
Nintendo had previously attempted to break into the mobile market during the 3DS/Wii U era, with experimental titles like Miitomo, and adaptations of existing works, like Mario Kart Tour. Many of these games have since been discontinued, with Nintendo seemingly focusing on its console endeavors.
Every Nintendo Game Announced For 2026, Including Star Fox
Fresh off a hot start in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2, here is every Nintendo game currently announced for 2026.
It seems that Nintendo wants to take another crack at the smart device market, as the official Nintendo UK Twitter/X account has announced Pictonico, a mobile game that uses the player’s photos as interactive elements for minigames that are similar to the ones seen in the WarioWare series.
Pictonico Is Nintendo’s Return To Mobile Market
Pictonico is a free-to-start game that’s launching on Android and iOS devices on May 28, 2026, with pre-registration opening today. The exact nature of the monetization is currently unknown at this time, but it will likely involve unlocking new games.
At launch, Pictonico will feature 80 minigames, as well as a Score Attack mode with a leader board. Pictonico uses photos of people taken by the player and incorporates them into the game, much like Face Raiders on the Nintendo 3DS, which used the camera to take snaps that were transplanted onto enemy units.

While Pictonico is only available for mobile devices, it could possibly work on the Nintendo Switch 2 via the Camera that’s used with the Gamechat feature. It would be easy to take pictures with the camera and play the games in handheld mode.
It’s surprising that Nintendo would return to the mobile gaming market after all this time, especially when so many of the non-Pokemon Go and Fire Emblem Heroes titles flopped. Maybe Pictonico was something originally designed for the Nintendo Switch 2, which was later ported to phones, as it was a better fit?
