Stellar Blade 2 looks just as horny and intense as the first one

We’ve finally gotten our first glimpse at the final chapter of Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy. Square Enix debuted its first footage for the RPG, which finally revealed the game’s official title: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

The trailer came during today’s Summer Game Fest stream, which featured more than two hours worth of game announcements. We got a glimpse of a new Resident Evil and a new Stellar Blade, but Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was one of the showcase’s biggest surprises.

Aside from revealing the title, the trailer gave us a quick tease of what’s coming in the final chapter. The crew will be able to fly the Highwind airship around Revelation‘s open world; no matter where you take it, you can jump out of the ship and parachute to the ground in a seamless transition. You’ll visit many key Final Fantasy 7 locations across the Planet, including Wutai.

Naoki Hamaguchi is looking to reach a new generation of players

The battle system from the first two games has been “perfected,” said Matt Mercer, who voices the game’s brooding goth Vincent Valentine, during the Summer Game Fest stream. This time around, Vincent will be a playable party member who uses a rifle, while Cid joins the party wielding a spear. Good thing, since you’ll need to fight the Weapons — massive creatures spawned by the Planet itself. The Summer Game Fest trailer ended with a glimpse of a Godzilla-sized creature emerging from the ocean.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation‘s appearance wasn’t a total shocker. Earlier this year, Polygon spoke to director Naoki Hamaguchi, who teased that the project was further along in development than fans might be expecting: “I believe that at this point the game is playable, technically, but we are still trying to polish it so it is at a quality where we can deliver it to our players,” Hamaguchi said.

Square Enix did not announce an official release date for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, though it will be released in spring 2027. It’s expected to launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
