In a statement posted on social media, Bungie announced it has finally decided to offer the full game to those who purchased the Deluxe Edition before the warning message was on the PlayStation Store.
The American studio notes that, from now on, purchasing the Deluxe upgrade alone during free trials will not grant access to Marathon.

Bungie has yet another controversy going on. Currently, Marathon is offering a free trial that was recently extended until June 11. Players can therefore freely enjoy the content of this competitive FPS.
However, when the trial version is added to your PS5 library, the PlayStation Store displays the Deluxe Edition of Marathon for €14, which seems like a great deal. Many users jumped at the opportunity, only to be in for a nasty surprise.
As a result, Bungie added a note to the product page stating that once the trial period ends, players who purchased the Deluxe Edition will only have access to the bonuses, but no longer to the full game. To access the full game, they’ll have to pay again. However, the description clearly states that the Deluxe Edition includes the base game.
This is actually a technical glitch with the PlayStation Store. When users download the free trial, Sony assumes they own the full game. The store therefore treats the Deluxe Edition as an upgrade to that same edition (priced at €14 instead of €20). But when Marathon is no longer free, the player will lose access to the game but retain the Deluxe Edition’s benefits.
To avoid all this troubel, you should purchase the Standard Edition, currently on sale for €27.99, to actually own the license that will allow you to continue playing once the free trial expires. As a second option, you can purchase the Deluxe Edition directly for €41.99 (instead of €59.99) before adding the free trial to your library.
