During the Xbox Games Showcase, the American company announced that Gears of War: E-Day would not be released on PS5. The game from The Coalition will be released exclusively on Xbox Series and PC on October 6.
Subsequently, rumors seemed to suggest that this console exclusivity had been decided at the last minute. Insider Jeff Grubb even claimed that a finalized PS5 version was sitting on a hard drive at The Coalition’s studio. Furthermore, during this week’s XBOX podcast dedicated to Gears of War: E-Day, the game’s trailer ended by displaying the PS5 logo. This suggests that everything was in place to confirm the game’s release on Sony’s console.
However, Aaron Greenberg, who is vice president of marketing at Xbox, offered a different explanation on X. First, he clarified that Microsoft did not make this decision at the last minute. The news was actually shared only with a “very small internal group,” leaving many people in the dark. The company’s intention was to share the information with fans first.
Finally, Greenberg added that he himself had only been notified of the exclusivity of Gears of War: E-Day a month in advance.
“A lot has changed since Asha (Sharma) took office 107 days ago. We’re moving quickly, and frankly, it’s quite exciting around the company. I was briefed on these exclusives about a month in advance.”
