July could mark a major turning point for the video game industry. Microsoft is set to carry out a major “reset”, shutting down some of its internal studios.
In recent hours, we’ve learned that Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, and even Arkane Studios are set to be shut down. Double Fine is also on this list. However, the studio behind Psychonauts, Keeper, and Kiln reportedly has a buyout clause that would allow it to become independent.
Additionally, BFMTV journalist Sylvain Trinel reports that major changes are coming next month. This fatal “bloodbath” is also expected to affect companies like DON’T NOD and Quantic Dream. He even urges internet users to keep an eye on what happens at Bethesda Game Studios (Fallout, The Elder Scrolls), id Software (DOOM), and BioWare (Mass Effect).
According to several journalists and insiders, July will be “a disaster” for the gaming industry.
