The Uncharted franchise hasn’t seen a new game in nine years. Only the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection was released in 2022. However, a very promising project might have come to fruition…
During the Sacred Symbols+ podcast, researcher and modder Michael Kemp made an interesting revelation. In 2018 or 2019, the support studio Visual Arts, which is owned by Sony, had begun working on a remake of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. The title’s existence is believed to be known because it is reportedly included in the files for The Last of Us Part II. The two titles shared the same engine.
According to these new details, Visual Arts had reworked the sequence in which Nate, Elena, and Sully’s plane crashes on the island. The modder notes that Uncharted 1 boasted visual quality on par with that of Uncharted 4. However, the amount of work required was deemed too great for such a small team. The first installment of the Naughty Dog saga required a thorough overhaul of its mechanics.
Ultimately, the studio opted to focus on the modernized version of The Last of Us, known as The Last of Us Part I, which was considered easier to develop.
