In an effort to combat scalpers, Valve has implemented a random waiting list system for its Steam Machine. Under this system, selected users receive an email allowing them to order the console within 72 hours. The spot is reassigned if the purchase isn’t made within the allotted time.

Unfortunately, this restriction hasn’t stopped unscrupulous online sellers from taking advantage of the situation. On eBay, for example, a 2 TB Steam Machine is selling for $2,899 instead of $1,349. The 512 GB version with a controller is being offered for $2,000 instead of $1,228.

To order the Steam Machine, Valve requires a Steam account that has made a purchase before April 27, 2026, and limits orders to one console per household.
