Saber Interactive has released a new gameplay trailer for Turok: Origins, giving players another look at the revived dinosaur-hunting shooter ahead of its launch later this year. I have a lot of time for Turok as it was one of the few video games one of my old friends would play, we spent a lot of time T-Rexxing back in the day
Developed and published by Saber Interactive in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, Turok: Origins is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 in Fall 2026. The new trailer shows off more of the game’s fast-paced sci-fi action, with players battling dinosaurs, aliens, and massive boss enemies across the Lost Lands.
Turok: Origins casts players as members of the Order of the Turok, a group of mystical warriors fighting to stop an alien threat from wiping out humanity across the galaxy. It is a fairly big swing for the series, moving beyond the original “man with gun shoots dinosaurs” pitch into something much more co-op focused and sci-fi heavy, though, honestly, “shooting dinosaurs with ridiculous weapons” remains the important bit.
Players will be able to tackle the campaign solo or with friends in online co-op, using a mix of first-person and third-person combat. Saber says players will battle dinosaurs, alien forces, and large-scale bosses while unlocking and upgrading a futuristic arsenal that includes plasma rifles, sniper weapons, bows, shotguns, and experimental alien technology.
The new gameplay also highlights Turok Powers, which are unlocked by collecting Echoes. These abilities are designed to let players customise their combat style and gain new advantages in battle, while exploration across the Lost Lands will take players through ancient ruins, jungles, alien landscapes, and other hidden areas. The official Turok: Origins site also describes a DNA-based upgrade system, with players harvesting DNA from fallen enemies and the environment to evolve their suit and unlock new abilities.
Turok: Origins was first revealed at The Game Awards in 2024, with Saber positioning it as a modern reimagining of the classic franchise rather than a straight continuation of the old Nintendo 64-era shooters. At the time, Saber described the game as a third-person co-op shooter for up to three players, though the latest release now also mentions both first-person and third-person action.
For anyone who grew up with Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, and the era when a dinosaur appearing in a shooter was basically enough to justify a rental, it is still a little surreal to see the series return in 2026. The original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter launched in 1997 and helped define the early Nintendo 64 shooter landscape, while Nightdive Studios has more recently kept the classic games alive through remasters.
Turok: Origins looks like it is trying to carry the name forward rather than simply trade on nostalgia. Whether that works will depend on whether Saber can make its co-op combat, upgrade systems, and monster encounters feel distinctive in a crowded shooter market.
Still, there is something pleasingly straightforward about the whole thing. Dinosaurs are back. Aliens are involved. There are bows, plasma rifles, and boss fights. Sometimes, that is enough to get the attention.
Turok: Origins is available to wishlist now on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.
