According to an article in [Forbes](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2026/07/14/ xbox-helix-may-only-sell-2-million-consoles-in-its-launch-year-says-analyst/), which cites an analyst’s estimates, the upcoming XBOX Project Helix console may sell only about 2 million units in its first year on the market. This figure would be significantly lower than the launch sales of previous Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo consoles.
This forecast can be attributed to several factors:
- the continued decline of the Xbox console market,
- Microsoft’s strategy, which now prioritizes the XBOX ecosystem (PC, Cloud, Game Pass) over hardware sales,
- the increased competition from PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC handhelds.
Project Helix is reportedly no longer a traditional console. In fact, Microsoft is said to be focusing on a device capable of running both XBOX and Windows games, as part of a strategy in which the console becomes just one of several entry points to its ecosystem.
It’s important to note, however, that this is an analyst’s estimate and not an official forecast from Microsoft. Sales could vary depending on the price, the launch lineup, marketing efforts, and market conditions. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Microsoft might consider Project Helix a success even if sales aren’t that high, if the console helps increase the number of users of Game Pass, XBOX services, and first-party games.
