Nintendo's latest Direct presentation brings updates to established titles and announces new content for the Switch and Switch 2.
Nintendo’s recent Direct presentation brought several notable updates and announcements, particularly focused on software updates, game releases, and legacy expansions. It’s clear that both the Nintendo Switch and its successor, the Switch 2, are seeing a steady stream of new content.
Mario Kart World Receives Classic Tracks Update
The prominently featured update in the Direct was for Mario Kart World, which has been updated to Version 1.8.0. This update includes ten classic tracks from the Super Mario Kart SNES era now available in Vs mode, alongside the addition of two new Knockout Tours. As reported by both My Nintendo News and Nintendo Life, this patch also sees classic item panels replace item boxes, enhancing the nostalgic experience for players.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Coming to Switch 2
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is heading to the Nintendo Switch 2. Initially released on other platforms last year, this SNK fighting game will be available digitally on October 22, 2026, with a physical release following in January 2027. The inclusion of characters from the manga series Tokyo Revengers adds further allure to the title. The report by My Nintendo News notes that pre-orders are now open.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Gets Definitive Edition
Koei Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set for re-release on the Switch 2 in February 2027 in the form of a Definitive Edition. The updated version will include performance enhancements, additional enemies on-screen, and new content, including a challenging “Calamity Mode.” Existing owners of the game will benefit from a discount on this version, according to Nintendo Life.
Other Releases and Updates
- Jackbox Games will release Fakin’ It XL later this year, bringing fresh content and modes to their popular party game, available on both Switch models (Nintendo Everything).
- Gennady, a new monochrome roguelike platformer, has secured an October 28 release date for the Nintendo Switch. It marks Sobaka Studio’s latest creative outing on the platform (Nintendo Everything).
As Nintendo expands its library with updates and new releases, it seems committed to keeping players engaged across both the current and upcoming Switch machines. This Direct confirms that existing franchises are being revitalized while inviting new experiences to the platform.
