Metroid Ravenous Announced as Switch 2 Exclusive, Continues Samus’ Saga

A new Metroid game is coming to Switch 2, focusing on a challenging 'eat or be eaten' theme, as Nintendo also addresses system vulnerabilities and new releases surface.

As we step into the weekend, the focus is largely on the upcoming releases and updates for Nintendo’s hardware. The recent announcement of Metroid Ravenous, a new entry exclusive to the Switch 2, stands out among these developments. According to Nintendo Life, the game continues the narrative of Samus Aran post-Metroid Dread. This sequel introduces a gameplay mechanic revolving around a survival challenge where “eat or be eaten” takes center stage, an intriguing spin that may revamp the classic Metroid formula. Set for release on January 28, 2027, the announcement has already stirred interest, as evidenced by the “Special Edition” quickly going out of stock at the Nintendo Store in the UK.

In parallel with these enhancements in game offerings, Nintendo has issued a system firmware update targeting both the Switch and the Switch 2. Nintendo Life reports that while the Switch 2 now supports VRR in docked mode, the original Switch has received a crucial patch designed to fix a noted vulnerability. This reflects Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to addressing security concerns and ensuring smooth operation across its platforms.

Meanwhile, there’s buzz around upcoming games slated for the Switch 2. Idea Factory will be bringing the school RPG Villion: Code to English-speaking audiences in 2027. This follows its Japanese release in June and features a creative team led by Kouji Okada, known for his work on iconic series like Megami Tensei and Persona.

Additionally, Stellar Blade: Complete Edition will land on the Switch 2 on November 5th. Nintendo Life highlights the release of a physical edition, marking a departure from the Game-Key Cards model and offering a complete on-cartridge experience. This may appeal particularly to collectors and those who prefer tangible copies.

Finally, concerns about the Switch 2’s capacity to handle high-demand titles have surfaced, notably with the anticipated Final Fantasy VII: Revelation. According to a Nintendo Life preview, while the game is poised to debut across multiple platforms on April 8, 2027, there are apprehensions regarding its performance on the Switch 2 compared to the PS5, given the technical demands of the title.
