Bungie plans to rerelease older Destiny 2 campaigns while trying to improve Marathon's player engagement.
Bungie is set to shake things up following a challenging period with its games, particularly after the underperformance of Marathon, its latest extraction shooter. As reported by Eurogamer, the company is responding to fan demand by unlocking previously vaulted campaigns and raids in Destiny 2. This decision is part of a broader strategy by Bungie’s new leadership to rejuvenate its audience engagement across titles. Unfortunately, Marathon hasn’t captured the audience Bungie had hoped for, and efforts are underway to refine and evolve the game to attract more players. Kotaku echoes the sentiment that the game “needs to evolve” as it currently resides in a “bad place.”
Game Updates and Fixes
In other update news, the action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker is receiving a substantial patch due in October, which will introduce new difficulty options and make significant combat changes. According to Eurogamer, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz aims to enhance player experience, particularly in combat targeting and maneuverability.
Meanwhile, fans of Final Fantasy 7 have reasons to be optimistic as Polygon reports that the upcoming third entry in the remake trilogy, FF7 Revelation, will address criticisms levelled at its predecessor, Rebirth. The bloated feel of the open-world experience in Rebirth should be mitigated in the new title, suggesting Square Enix is keen on refining the player experience as the trilogy concludes.
Classic Titles and Literary Expansions
For fans of classic gaming, the beloved SNES RPG series Lufia is being re-released for modern platforms, according to Kotaku. After 30 years, the first two titles are making a comeback, although Kotaku advises fans to particularly look forward to the sequel. Meanwhile, Polygon notes that Andrzej Sapkowski is working on a new entry in the Witcher series, promising more content soon for fans of the series.
