Three Fields Entertainment, the studio behind the open-world arcade racer Wreckreation, which launched in late October this year, has delivered harsh news regarding its future.
The studio, founded by former Criterion directors, promised to recapture the chaotic essence of the beloved Burnout franchise with its new title. But now, just weeks after its release, they had announced that its entire team had been placed under notice of redundancy, leaving the status of the company uncertain.
CEO Delivers Heartbreaking Message Regarding Studio’s Future
The difficult news was given by CEO and co-founder Fiona Sperry, who revealed the studio’s financial circumstances in a social media post she called “one of the hardest messages of her career”.
Sperry confirmed the layoffs, stating that the decision was “extremely difficult”, but there were no alternatives given the complex financial reality: “This is a heartbreaking moment for all of us”.
She went on to explain that the problem even precedes the launch of Wreckreation. Since the project was only finalized with the publisher’s help (THQ Nordic), the studio faces a serious cash flow problem because the publisher must receive its share first, meaning it will take a while for them to receive any profits from Wreckreation.
“As an independent studio, we will not see revenue from game sales for the foreseeable future”, Sperry explains. “We have had to self-fund most of this year and all of the post-launch content. Without the enthusiasm or financial support from our publisher to continue development, we simply cannot sustain the studio in its current form”.

The news come after layoffs at its studio.
The CEO also revealed that the team had extensive plans for continued content and support for Wreckreation, but these efforts have been put on hold due to the crisis. So, in an attempt to attract investors or publishers willing to bet on the project to save it, she released a video showcasing these planned features, serving as a public appeal for investment.
“My hope is that by showing this work publicly, someone out there might also see that potential and perhaps an opportunity could still emerge. But even if that hope does not materialize, we want this to stand as a testament to our vision and to the strength, passion, and skill of our tiny team. I truly believe in the potential of this game and in the brilliance of the people who built it.”
To close her statement, Sperry thanked Wreckreation’s passionate community, confirming that the crossplay feature update, which was already scheduled, remains on track to arrive before Christmas in the game.
