When you enter the golden domain of the Haunted Bellhart in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you’re certainly in for a horrifying surprise.
Bugs hang in the air, tortured in stasis. It’s pretty unsettling to say the least. Of course, that’s where you come in! It’s your job to cut down whoever is pulling the strings. Literally!
High above, The Widow can be found, and she’s no joke! This fight is certainly going to test you, but it’s a fun one to learn. So polish your needle, equip your tools, and get ready to fight for your life.
How To Find The Widow
Before you can reach this boss, you’re first going to have to traverse through the Shellwood and receive the Cling Grip ability. This can be found after the Sister Splinter boss fight, and will allow you to climb up walls.
After the fight, continue east and head into Upper Bellhart. You’ll find yourself in a maze of tunnels. Head down through the area until you reach a fork in the road.
One path heads left through a long corridor. This is where you should set your respawn point. There is a bench just west of this corridor, and you can get back to the boss very fast through here.
The other path leads down into the boss’ chamber.
Tips For The Fight
The first thing I would recommend before you begin, is to get the Crest of the Wanderer. I tried this fight with the Crest of the Reaper, but honestly, it was taking too long with the slow attacks. The crest of the wanderer lets you attack far quicker, as though you had the Quick Slash charm from Hollow Knight.
In addition, it makes sense to have as many masks as possible here, so try and get at least 6 masks for the fight, as many of her attacks can do up to 2 masks of health at a time.
You can equip whatever tools you want, but honestly, this fight is all about fine-tuning your movement abilities. Tools and charms aren’t going to help if you can’t dodge properly.
The Widow’s Moveset
Phase 1
There are quite a few opportunities for you to get as much damage as possible here. Whenever the Widow is pulling on the thread to bring down bells from the ceiling, that’s your chance. Luckily, this happens pretty often.
In addition, if she ever runs across the floor, like when summoning spikes or doing her slash attack, you can bop her on the head when she goes beneath you. It’s just a single hit, but it stacks up pretty quickly.
Remember, the bells all bounce at least once before disappearing. You can bounce off of them with an attack.
Finally, there are a few moments where she becomes dazed and lies on the floor. Naturally, you’ll want to smack her as many times as possible. This is when the Crest of the Wanderer comes in handy.

Attack Name |
Description |
How To Avoid |
|---|---|---|
|
Thread Pull |
The Widow will pull on a string of thread and send a bell crashing your way. This can be either vertically or diagonally. |
You can stand in the golden thread for a little bit before the bell comes. Use this time to attack, and as soon as you see the bell, dash to the side. |
|
Ground Spikes |
The boss will run across the floor of the stage and summon a bunch of spikes in the direction that she was moving. Again, look for the threads to see where the spikes emerge. |
Either jump up and use your glide ability to hand in midair, or down attack to pogo off the top of the spikes. |
|
Slice and Dice |
The Widow will appear and hang in the air for a second before slashing diagonally towards you. Then she will swing her claws at you, doing 2 masks of damage if you get caught. However, if you time it right, you can parry to only take a single mask. |
Dash to the side to avoid her air attack, and then jump over her head as she comes towards you. |
|
Bell Shower |
After she goes down for the first time, she will cause a bunch of bells to fall from the ceiling at the same time. The boss will yell as she uses this attack. This can happen in the centre of the arena or on either side. |
Simply dash to the side to avoid this one. You can’t usually damage her during this attack. |
Phase 2
Technically, there are no new attacks in phase 2, but everything about the boss will become rapid and more hectic. Make sure to heal in between the transition phase, as you’re probably going to take a decent chunk of damage here. It’s really hard to dodge absolutely everything, and there is basically no chance to bind.
Throw a few spike traps at the beginning for some easy damage.
The attack buffs are as follows:
- She will use thread pull twice in quick succession, pulling multiple bells diagonally towards you.
- She barely telegraphs the cross-room slash attack. You have to predict this if you’re already close to her.
- She will cause the bell shower to come down faster, and the shout is reduced in length.
Fight Rewards
Once you finish phase 2, use your bind ability on the boss, and you will be sent into another one of those dreamlike platforming sequences.
Make your way to the top, and you will earn the Needolin ability. This allows you to play your needle like a violin (see what they did there?) and open certain doors around the map. You’re going to need this to open a large bell door a little bit later on, just before the Judge Fight.
What’s more is that you’ll free the city of Bellhart below! Now it becomes a quaint little town with a lot of beneficial shops for you.
- You can use a new Wish Board and complete tasks in the immediate vicinity.
- A new shop will open, selling trinkets and useful items.
- You can trade in some of the relics you’ve found for a nice amount of rosary beads.
- Finally, you can also polish your needle in the topmost shop to make it do a bit more damage. Generally, any enemy that dies in 4 hits will now die in 3.
