Rumi’s lifelong struggle with the patterns she was hiding started when she was young… all she understood about the marks she carried was what she was told by Celine, her mentor and maternal figure. Sure, Celine was sincere in the beliefs she taught Rumi to follow in her formative years, but unfortunately she was sincerely wrong. The beliefs Rumi carried into adulthood on the most important matters in her life were based on Celine’s flawed ideology… information that had likely passed to her in similar fashion. The freedom Rumi spent her entire life seeking couldn’t be found by following Celine’s flawed guidance, no matter how well-intentioned it was.
We’ve all inherited beliefs from our childhoods that affected our worldviews… for years, many of the beliefs I accepted as Biblical facts weren’t actually in the Bible or were taken completely out of context. We can’t change what we were taught, but we ARE responsible for what we choose to believe by seeking out God’s absolute truth in Scripture for ourselves. Just as Celine pieced together a few facts into a well-intended but ultimately ignorant doctrine, there are souls who have either mistakenly or intentionally convinced us of half-truths that have kept us bound…let’s open up His Word for ourselves so we can learn His truth and finally be set free.
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32
Now these people were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Acts 17:11
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
