Capcom has had a fantastic start to 2026, releasing three hit games in a row: Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata. And the developer’s banner year isn’t over yet, with Onimusha: Way of the Sword due to launch later this year. Of all those games, only Pragmata is a new IP for the company, which makes the game’s success all the sweeter. In a recent interview, GamesRadar asked Pragmata director Yonghee Cho and producer Naoto Oyama about the prospect of a sequel, and their response was a positive (though measured) one.
“Of course I’d love to see a sequel,” Cho told GamesRadar. “But I’m not the only one who decides, so unfortunately I can’t really comment beyond that.” He then added that this was purely his “own personal opinion on the matter.”
“Please don’t take that line out of context,” Oyama added.
GamesRadar’s Austin Wood points out that “this was the point that Capcom PR on the Japan side of the call really spoke up. You’d think Cho had dropped a live hand grenade in the room from the way everyone rushed to dive on his response.”
According to Capcom, Pragmata sold a million copies in just two days, and hit the two mllion mark just a couple weeks after launch. The game was something of an experimental project within the company, led by a team of younger Capcom developers. Top brass at the company have yet to comment on the prospect of a Pragmata sequel, which is not particularly unusual so soon after a game’s launch.
As Polygon’s Ari Notis pointed out back in April, Pragmata‘s success may be the beginning of a larger trend toward major studios embracing smaller-scale games — ones that don’t take six years and more than $200 million to make. “The biggest game of 2025 was a single-player turn-based RPG about French 30-somethings killing god,” he wrote. “And Pragmata sold a million copies in a weekend. Hopefully the industry takes note.”
