In case you missed the news, NBA The Run is about to drop onto the sports video game scene, and it’s looking to do so with a bang. In fact, if you’re someone (like me) who grew up absolutely obsessed with the NBA Street series, you’ll be pleased to know that The Run is aiming to capture this same spirit and take hoops arcade games back to their roots.
Hands-On Preview: NBA The Run Will Fill the NBA Street Void in Your Life
Elbow roooooom. Elbow room!
Up until now, the game hasn’t been playable for the general public. I got to go hands-on with an early demo for media back in April, and there’s been a Closed Beta since then as well. But for anyone else eager to see what all the hype is about, there’s good news: the Open Beta for the game is about to drop. Here are all the details if you want to try NBA The Run for yourself.
NBA The Run Open Beta Details
NBA The Run will have an Open Beta Session on Saturday, May 30th from 1pm EDT – 9pm EDT, giving you a full eight hours to hop in and check out the action. During this time, you’ll be able to try two game modes: Knockout Squads, and Knockout Solos.
In Squads, you’ll control one player specifically on your three-man team and take on another group of three. In Solos, you’ll be in control of all three members of your team, much like the OG NBA Street.
What’s also nice is that this Open Beta will be on PS5, Xbox, and PC via Steam all at the same time, and with cross-play fully enabled. This’ll mark the first time that NBA The Run has been shown off on consoles, as all other sessions prior have been PC-only. No Beta codes or sign-ups are required. You can simply download the title on your platform of choice during the Beta window and jump into the action.
The entire roster of 30+ NBA stars won’t feature in the Open Beta, but you’ll still have a nice batch of sixteen in total to choose to play with. Here are all of the players that will be available in the May 30 Open Beta:
- Giannis Antetokounmpo
- Scottie Barnes
- LaMelo Ball
- Jalen Brunson
- Stephen Curry
- Anthony Davis
- Luka Dončić
- Kevin Durant
- Anthony Edwards
- Cooper Flagg
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
- LeBron James
- Damian Lillard
- Donovan Mitchell
- Ja Morant
- Victor Wembanyama
The Short Lead-Up to Full Release
Whether or not you’re able to join in on the Open Beta, we don’t have too much longer to wait for NBA The Run either way. The game is slated to launch on June 9th at $29.99 USD, with a Deluxe Version listed at $39.99 that includes exclusive/unique playable rookie variants of Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Luka Dončić, as well as 1,000 CRED, the currency you’ll use in the game to purchase new items from the shop.
If you’re able, however, I’d personally highly recommend checking this Open Beta out. Not only is the game already a lot of fun, but the developers at Play by Play Studios have clearly shown that they’re very open to player feedback and are taking all of our thoughts and opinions into consideration at every step of the dev process.
No Beta codes or sign-ups are required. You can simply download the title on your platform of choice during the Beta window and jump into the action.
Things like increased dunk takeoff zones, additional dribble moves, and tweaks to defense have already been implemented after player feedback, so it truly seems like the more people can try out the Open Beta, the better the game will eventually become based on this open feedback loop.
For more information, you can head over to the game’s website. The team also released a new trailer for the Open Beta Announcement, which you can view below.
