Baby Steps Has A Brilliantly Obnoxious Surprise For Cutscene Skippers

I must admit, I’ve always struggled to understand why anyone would skip cutscenes during their first playthrough – and it seems the developers of Baby Steps feel the same way.

Players recently discovered that you can actually unlock a hidden cutscene if you’ve skipped a lot of them while playing it, which can be a clever surprise or a kind of “punishment”, depending on the point of view.

If you ask me, it’s a brilliant twist that fits perfectly with the game’s wacky sense of humor. I mean, in a game about stumbling and learning to take things slow, even skipping and trying to make things faster comes with its own reward, turning impatience into part of the joke.

Skip Too Many Cutscenes in Baby Steps, and You’ll Unlock One You Can’t Skip

For starters, skipping a cutscene in Baby Steps may not be as easy as you think, because most of them have QTE puzzles in order for you to skip it – and they get harder and faster as you progress in the game.

However, if you are stubborn enough to still skip around 30 of the game’s cutscenes, you’ll unlock a hidden scene when the protagonist, Nate, finds the Moose’s cabin in the middle of the snowy mountain.

As shown in a recent video by YouTuber Cuttyflame, Nate openly discusses how the player skips the story in the scene, and he becomes quite upset by it! He and Moose even try to figure out why the player is skipping so many scenes, saying, “maybe they already finished the game before” and “they think cutscenes are stupid”.

Whatever the real reason may be, they also do not spare a bit of criticism of those who are used to skipping cutscenes. “I feel like I’m putting a lot of work into this. It’s not very respectful”, says Nate.

Despite that, their conversation also has plenty of room for some hilarious debates, such as the parts of broccoli, a Game of Thrones rewatch, and how Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet (yes, the upcoming title by Naughty Dog) looks impressive.

It’s a funny and unexpected moment that drags on for 28 minutes (which feels endless to players who were skipping scenes that lasted less than one minute) and breaks the fourth wall, making you think about what you’re doing. You can check it in the video below:
