If we’re recapping some of the most anticipated games of 2026, Resident Evil Requiem is undoubtedly at the top of that list.
At the end of this month’s Nintendo Direct, we had the surprise announcement that the newest entry in the Resident Evil franchise will be making its way to Nintendo Switch 2, along with its excellent predecessors, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.
I fully expected the latter to take place; they’re both older games and, in theory, easy to port to Nintendo’s newest console. But to see the newest game also be making its way to a Nintendo platform, especially given the graphical limitations compared to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, is a bit of a surprise.
While the Switch 2 trailer for Requiem still looked pretty good visually, there’s no denying that it will pale in comparison to the graphics on PS5 and Xbox. Perhaps that’s one reason why the suggested price is a little cheaper on the Switch 2.
Amazon UK Listing Resident Evil Requiem Cheaper Than PS5, Xbox Counterparts
At the time of writing, the Amazon store page for Resident Evil Requiem lists the price for the Nintendo Switch 2 version as £49.96. For comparison’s sake, the PS5 and Xbox versions of the game are listed at an MRSP of £58.32.
For those like me who live in the States, let’s do some conversion math. It comes out to roughly $67 for the Nintendo Switch 2 version, and $78 on Xbox and PS5. Now, does that mean that Requiem will be $70 or $80 in the U.S.? No, but it does hint that the Switch 2 version will be cheaper, presumably due to those inferior graphics.
It’s fully expected that the Switch 2 version of the game will also utilize the game-key card technology due to limitations on the Switch 2’s cartridge.
This also indicates that the “Switch tax” some games have been enforcing may be coming to an end. While it’s not an “officially confirmed” thing, there was still the trend that the Nintendo Switch versions of games were more expensive than their counterparts. With the cost of Resident Evil Requiem reportedly cheaper than on other consoles, the frustrating Switch tax may finally be coming to an end.
As for when we’ll get official confirmation on the prices for Resident Evil Requiem, I fully expect that to come this week at Tokyo Game Show.
