Back in the days of the first PlayStation, there wasn’t the luxury of releasing updates to fix bugs after launching the game, so the developers had to work while keeping the system’s hardware restrictions in mind. This led to many creative solutions, and one of the best examples of it was fog in the first Silent Hill.
Since the system couldn’t render the entire town without having issues. Thus, to give players a better performance, the developers covered the town in fog. This way, the only things that got rendered were what’s in the surroundings of the player.
But since it did elevate the horror experience, it became an aesthetic of the game, and has been a core theme of Silent Hill. Luckily, if you are playing on a PC, with the help of mods, you can remove the fog altogether. Someone had already made it for the Silent Hill 2 remake, and now one is out for their latest Silent Hill f.
Silent Hill f No Fog Mod Lets You Reduce Or Completely Remove Fog
Recently, X (formerly Twitter) user Besk shared some screenshots of the game with and without the fog with the caption, “Someone already removed fog in Silent Hill F lol”.
This has led to some funny memes where X user DeadPirateBrandon – Happy Halloween! posted, “Fog machine broke, give him 15 mins” with an image of a guy trying to fix the fog machine. Another user, JesseTokes, said, “Now we just playing The Hills at this point 😂”
While most are taking it as a joke, there are some comments that do not like the idea of removing fog from a Silent Hill game, claiming that it defeats the purpose, or calling it cheating, and that clearing the game with this mod on does not count.
We do not know exactly which mod the user in the above post used, but if you want to try it out for yourself, you can check out the No Fog mod on NexusMods. This way, you can decide whether it is worth playing with or without mods yourself. But regardless of what mods you use, if you are a fan of the horror genre, Silent Hill f is definitely worth checking out.
